Engine problems

Hello from MI. New member with question about driveability issue. I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD 4.8 eng. Just repaired a crank, no start, no spark issue on 10.31.16. Fault was a bad chassis ground for coils. Jumped coil ground at bank plugs to firewall and it starts. However, now it runs rough with no power. At times it runs well, but mostly has this problem. Check engine light flashes and can hear clank noise from under truck. Last time it did this was at idle and had strong gas smell. I replaced battery due to age, removed PCM from mount and removed 1 wire loom to check for corrosion.

This mornings test drive was 8 miles and all was well. Issues started 1 mile from home but was able to limp back. Would welcome any ideas. Thanks

Hey all, replying to my own post. Thanks for the welcomes. Found solution to my problem. After spending $100 for a CKP and a tow, fault was a ground wire which was checked twice. Removed wire from block and wire brushed terminal, looked OK, reattached. Day later wire was completely detached. At the start I said to myself that the problem is going to be something simple and it was. Lesson here is to check the simple things 1st, and recheck. Was on verge of replacing PCM before we found fault.

Your reference to the "welcomes" is something some of us can relate to.

Nice to see you found a solution to the problem.

Well done.
