No Homelink? No problem!

Today's mod of the day- home brew home link system.

1. Solder cat 5 extension leads to opener remote switch contacts.

2. Solder micro switches onto wire leads.

3. Drill 2, 9/64" holes to mount the switches in. My first attempt using superglue for mounting leaked around and glued the buttons immobile, so I came up with a strip of kydex backing plate and hot glue.

4. Sit in the driveway and watch the doors go up and down like an idiot.

Good Idea.

My garage door opener was so old I had to buy a new one just to support the newer vehicles ha ha.

My mod was a 20 FT antenna on the opener no more pounding the buttons to get the door to open.

Very creative idea. Did you put the opener in the sunglass holder? If not, I would have been tempted to lengthen the wires and stash the opener somewhere that's easier to get to when it's time to replace the battery.

The opener is zip tied to the harness above the new buttons.that panel comes out with no tools, so battery changes are no problem. Besides I put in a new battery when I did this so it'll be good for years.

Plus, I just modded the sunglass holder so it now holds my Oakleys.

what did you have to do to modify your sunglass holder to get it more functional?
