I have 2017 Silverado. I installed the kit but but didn't get the green pin all the way before I took it to the dealer. Now I have a check engine light and a service security system light. Can this be cleared by the dealer or do I have a bigger problem? I tried to disconnect the battery but the code came back. The new remotes do work. Everything but the auto start. Please advise.

next the harness runs along still following the hood release cable. The factory instructions say to only put the harness through 2 of the 3 clips on the side of the engine bay but I put it through all

Now you route the green wire to the black plug on the bcm and plug it into pin 24, pin 24 may or may not have a green and brown striped wire already in it that you will need to remove and tape back. T

Not yet. I reached out to a local dealer and played dumb just inquiring about adding remote start. The parts guy didnt come off as very knowledgable and said he couldn't see it for my truck despite me

It sounds like the ground wire connection in the cab is still not completely connected or the ground for the hood latch is not connected to the frame well enough I would check both of those along with the hood latch connector and then try to clear the codes.

so i just bought a 2018 custom . I looked at the hood latch and it already has the wiring harness hooked up to it.  So what next? buy some key fobs and run to dealer to get em programmed?

I also have a 2018 custom and would like to add remote start. It appears I have the hood latch and its plugged into the wiring kit but its strange that when I have the truck running and open the hood I don't get a dash notification. Do we just need keyfobs and programming or do we need the full 22997089 remote start kit?? I scanned the QR code for my trucks RPO codes and I dont see AQQ which I've seen other treads/sites mention was required so I'm just unsure how to proceed.

I have and 18 custom too and i noticed the hood latch already plugs in and was wondering how the remote start was going to tie in. Did you ever figure this out?

The parts guy didnt come off as very knowledgable and said he couldn't see it for my truck despite me logging into the chevrolet website searching my vehicles VIN and see the part as compatible. I didn't push it when him either and instead I reached out to dealer selling OEM parts on ebay and they checked my VIN and said it would work so I said F it and purchased the kit as it appears you need the activation code that comes with it despite not needing the other parts. I just received the kit in the mail actually so now I need to start calling more local dealers and see if anyone can install it and knows what the heck it takes. From what I see its just a BCM program and learning the two new oem keyfobs to the truck.

 

How about you any luck yourself? or just sitting back waiting?

If you already have the wired hood latch, you just don't use the latch the kit is the same for all 2014 up, regardless.  I threw the latch away since my '17 had one.  Programming and key fobs, that's it.  I did it but I have GM software, find a shop with up to date subscriptions and knowledge or take it to the dealer.

Good deal I didn’t do this yet I’m waiting till closer to winter but I’ll get it done. Good to know I don’t need to wire anything up it’s just all programming by the dealer that I need

I got mine done Friday. Paid an arm and a leg to the dealer to get it done. They had it for the entire day and even though the latch was there and wired they had problems and GM told them to replace the latch with the one in my kit. Not sure if it it was faulty or what. Either way I'm loving the remote start.

Did the dealer quote you an amount before doing the work or did they just charge you time until they were done? I am looking at doing this for my 2016 WT and was quoted 275+tax for part and however long it takes to do the work.  The last one they did was 3 hours and I just feel that is a little excessive for what they are doing.  Does anybody have thoughts on how long this should take? I have seen some say the whole thing should take less than 1.5 hours.

I recently bought a 2018 custom without remote start. Enjoyed having it on my 2014 so I added it to the 2018 for $425 parts and labor (1.5hr) from the dealership. Only issue I’m having is setting up the remote start with the Onstar mobile app. The Onstar rep says it should be no issue and they’re working on it, along with the dealership. It’s going on week 3, but it still comes in hand with Texas heat.

I don’t have to worry about Onstar working, wasn’t in the truck to start with.  If my dealer would do that deal I wouldn’t be posting about it.  Unfortunately I am having to check with nearby dealerships to see if they can offer closer to what you paid.  My dealer wants to charge $420 just for the install.  Thank you for the labor time and price you paid.  It really helps.

1.5 Hours is very fair, especially if they had to install the latch.  Setting, up logging in, etc and the BCM update takes an hour alone, maybe a little less even for somebody proficient.  I wouldn't charge less than 2 if I did it again.

So if we have the hood latch harness, all we would need is fobs and programming??

      I agree with Tim.  As tech heavy as engines are these days, no way I’d be an early buyer of the new 6.6.  Of course, I bought my ‘26 Denali w/the 6.2 after dumping my Tundra with it’s defective 3.5 liter imploding engine disaster, so I’m a little gun-shy.  That said, my 6.2 has been rock solid.  I don’t drive it like I do my BMW Z4 M40i, but I don’t baby it either.  I got a V8 for a reason.  But I’m averaging 18 around town and 22 highway.  I have seen 24 highway as well when I wasn’t loaded up heavy.  Considering my Tundra with the twin turbo V6 only got 14.5 in town and 17 on the road, I’ll take the 6.2 all day, every day.  If I were you, I’d grab a ‘26 while you can.  Inventories are probably gonna start dropping and I’ll bet the deals will start looking sweeter as well.

      I am curious if anyone has figured out a way to add an hard button AUX or 360 Camera switch to the center row of switches. I have a 2021 AT4, and want to split the hill decent button and add a 360 camera button so that you don't have to go into the center display and locate the camera functionality, etc...   My father's 2024 Yukon XL AT4 and it has a hard button, see below.       Through the years it hasn't been my typical method as I tried to drop oil on an engine that was hot from having been worked, however that was not always practical and had to fire up a unit and let it warm up reasonably well and drop the oil when I had the time to do it but am referring to not only vehicles but a variety of farm equipment and highway tractors etc. However on a vehicle where one is crawling under it and the exhaust is nearby to ones body and if wanting to pull the plug without danger of being hit with boiling hot oil or attempting to remove a HOT oil filter, its sure safer and easier to not have everything smoking hot and can remove the filter right away when under the vehicle and let it all drain. Of course its not the end of the world if a bit of oil stays in the engine that might have eventually found its way out, I like to get out as much as possible but any oil changes that take place in shops would rarely be sitting around for very long at all before the plug is thrown back in and filter slapped on and oil poured in and sent out the door quick like. There would be very little time spent ( assuming they even did it ) in starting the engine with oil to fill the filter, then waiting to verify the level on the stick. A good reason to check ones oil level shortly after a shop changed the oil on a vehicle just to make sure its correct and to look under for any oil around the drain plug or filter.
