Rough idle

Hello everyone,

I am new to the GM forum, I am looking for help. I own a 2008 chevy Silverado truck and I had a mechanic try to repair a warning light. I don't know what the code was for the warning light. All I know right now is that the mechanic replaced a two parts called Throttle body assembly and accelerator pedal and the warning light went away but now my idle sounds rough. Is this normal ? The mechanic told me to drive it for a few day until it goes back to normal, Is this right? I need to make sure the vehicle is operates normal so i can get it to a smog station. Anyone out there that can please help ....

Thank you !!!

Unfortunately no. Sounds like he just thru parts at it too and really replaced something you didn't need replaced. There is no reason the replace the APP and the Throttle body at the same time. Both work on different systems all together but are controlled together.

The reason your vehicle is idling incorrectly is because the throttle body was replaced and the idle learn was not done. This needs to be done using the proper scan tool. If he doesn't have access to one, you may need to take it to the dealership to have it done. Also if the Idle learn doesn't fix it (and this happens a lot) a reprogram of the PCM will need to be done.

I know this video will not help with the repairs, but it kinda explains what is going on. You should never clean/replace your throttle body unless you have the tools to relearn the idle.

Hope this helps.

You need to drive the truck so the throttle body adjusts itself.

Agreed. I saw to different videos on not to touch the TB unless you had the programmer to do the relearn. I saw 1 video on if you do some long drives it will correct its self. I did roughly 150miles my truck went back to normal. I installed a new throttle position sensor and did a good clean.
