2017 Sierra All Terrain vs Denali

I am looking to buy a 2017 Sierra with a standard box and cant decide between the two models. I have seen some reviews from earlier models but i wanted to see if anyone had some specific info on the 2017s. I will not be using the truck to haul anything other than the occcasional home depot trip; mainly just highway and around town unloaded. I am looking for general reviews and comparisons as well as opinions on ride quality and if the Magnetic Ride does make that much difference. Thanks for the help

My neighbor has an All Terrain. From what I can tell, it seems like an SLT with nice rims and some off-road parts like skid plates and hill descent control.

The Denali seems like it's closer to a Cadillac in terms of bells and whistles. The gauges are the big standout to me with graphic displays rather than analog gauges.

I think if you are looking for some status and want luxury features, the Denali is the way to go. But if you want a nicely appointed and capable truck, the All Terrain should be sufficient.

Based on this description of use.. you want the denali without question. No reason to pay extra for the stiffer ride and skid plates you'll never have need for. Denali will ride much smoother with the Magnetic Ride and have more 'purpose' as a city truck

While you're looking, you may want to look at the SLE and SLT. I found a really nicely optioned SLE with a standard box, crewcab, 4X4 and leather. It is a very comfortable vehicle for passengers and driver.

To me the big difference was the all terrain is the only way to get a truck with no chrome on the front end. I much prefer the look of the all terrains front end over the denali's and that was the deciding factory for me as there wasnt that much difference in price between the two. I am sure I could have changed the grille and surround to all terrains on a denali but cant see having to spend that kind of money to make 50+k truck. Just depends on what tickles your fancy.

Funny you say that, the lack of chrome was the first thing that caught my eye. I like the look of the all-terrain over the denali no question. I am just concerned with the ride of the denali being superior due to the tech.

Looks are subjective. There's not much difference between the two trucks besides the looks and MRC. MRC is very nice. Go test drive them and see for yourself if you can live without it. AT is an "off-road" truck while the Denali is mostly a highway truck. Pick whichever one you want. They're both excellent choices.

Denali will ride better, long term I question the magnetic ride, otherwise its mostly appearance, I would love to jump in and out of each,

also depends on the color you like, for instance if u want summit white its not available on the Denali, why u ask? well someone makes about 100k more a year thne me to decide those things,,,,,,,,,,,,,,dummy

I would recommend a tahoe or suburban then.

If you don't need a pickup to do what they do best, work, then you're buying something that is a lot less comfortable than it's passenger oriented brethren.

I do enough lugging around that i need the bed, not enough for the 2500 though

I would say the denali sounds like a better fit. The all terrain is a stiffer ride because of the Z71 suspension. The Denali is built to have a much smoother ride, and since it sounds like you won`t be off roading then it sounds like the Denali better suits you.

After my 2014 SLT 4X4 with the Z71 package was totaled, I was set to get a 17 and wanted the 6.2. I test drove both and ended up going with the Denali. The All Terrain was a good looking truck and I did like the different "leather" seats, however the ride was no where near that of the Denali. The ride was way less bouncy and even with the 22's, I felt less cracks, pot holes and bumps than the All Terrain. I was in the same boat as you with just the truck being a pavement queen and little to no off roading. I even considered a Yukon XL, however it really came down for price for me. At the time I bought I think there was only a 5-7k price difference as I was able to get 4K off the Denali. I also think the Denali will hold value a bit better.
