Exhaust Guys: Difference Choosing Muffler vs Full Exhaust?

Does sound nice.

And is that a manual transmission?

At 4:40 it sounds like a slow manual shift. If that's the auto shifting in the 5.3, it's molasses.

I think he has a auto. I think the way these trannys are programmed they kill power between shifts which gives it a manual sound. I love how it does that. Yea I wish I could hear it in person. Just to see how loud it is

I was thinking maybe he had it in "manual" mode using the lame column shifter buttons and he hit the rev limiter for a second.

My new Sierra with the 6.2 only has 310 miles on it so I have yet to go to redline or try the buttons out, but in moderate acceleration it's 8 speed auto does not shift as slow as that transmission in the video.

So are tips pretty much universal. I had a borla pair on amazon but then it said they dont fit, but then on borla's site they said it fits. I feel more comfortable with them saying it fits vs Amazon.

Anyways are most universal or you need specific ones for your making of truck

Tips are more universal. Not really vehicle specific. You'll match up the OD of your tail pipe with the ID of the new tip.

Trust the manufacturers site over Amazon. I've noticed on several occasions with several different autos I've owned where Amazon says it doesn't fit my particular auto.

Nothing dumb about those questions. We all have to learn things all the time, and the best way to do so is to ask.

I'm very new to the GM trucks too, so I ask quite a bit of questions as well.

The flapper is down stream of the main big muffler. It's between the large muffler and the smaller resonator muffler.

I believe there is room for them to cut out the main large muffler and weld in an aftermarket muffler (like Borla or Flowmaster) and never touch the flapper, therefore the flapper valve should continue to work without issue.

There will just be a bit more sound from the aftermarket muffler.

I'm waiting to do mine until after the new year.

I am getting wheels/tires delivered sometime in mid to late January so I want to get everything done (including the 1.5" near level kit) at the same time.

my work just slid us a holiday bonus, mine was pretty nice so as a Christmas gift to myself I will be adding Borla muffler on to my truck. Just need to gather how much im looking at.

I dont know much about resonator and flapper so can those be changed/removed after the muffler is installed. Say if it had a tone i didnt like could i go in and change those 2 things later on after the borla is put on/welded

If you pay the $1,000-1,200 for the GM Performance Parts Borla catback system, GM adds a flapper to the Borla system to take care of the droning and helicopter sound when the V8 goes to V4 mode.

But if you are going to just cut out the stock large muffler and put in a Borla muffler, from what I've learned you can just leave the stock Flapper valve in the pipe that's down stream of the muffler.

That's what I'm doing. $1,000-1,200 for a catback for essentially sound alone (maybe a few hp too, but nothing you'd ever feel or notice) isn't worth it to me.

I'd rather spend the $150 for the Borla muffler and another $100 for an exhaust shop to put it in.

Rather $250 for sound than a grand more than that.

Then if you want either get a chrome tip part for $65 and put it on the end of the stock exhaust if you bought your truck without it.

Yeah $2-300 sounds good to me ;)

I'll leave everything there and see how it goes, if not then ill start seeing what i can do about the flapper and resonator.
