Exhaust Guys: Difference Choosing Muffler vs Full Exhaust?

Can you buy borla "s type" mufflers alone?......I was one of the suckers that bought the GM borla cat back exhaust system and would wanna know how to get that "s type" sound without replacing the whole thing? Any help

And how is that GM cat-back system? And price?

Thanks.....and don't get me wrong I like it a lot more then stock...but it's not exactly as loud as a borla "S-type" and that's was what I originally was going for! I got it installed for about 1600 plus the black chrome tips another $200

I have stock and keeping stock everything i just want to swap out muffler. That was 2 diff posts from me though. 1 giving the s type muffler part # and another asking the pipe size how it was measured (got that answer)

I got the force 2 cat back flowmaster for my 2015 1500 Silverado. Sounds awesome. Fit perfectly. The drone is pretty bad depending how you drive.

Is 3" off/center

A competent muffler shop should be to cut out your OE muffler and weld this in place. They may need to use a piece of 3" tubing to make it work but nothing too complicated. On my 6.2 AT Magnaflow 12909 fit perfectly without issue. Shop measured and cut out the OE muffler and flapper valve and welded the new muffler in place.

Yeah thats what i was thinking. OE muffler is off/center and 3" .. the flowmaster may be shorter in length but no reason why it wouldnt fit. Maybe they just mean direct replacement no extra.

 

 

That advanceautoparts code was a bummer. They tack on $13 for shipping that arrives in 10-12 days. So instead of getting it for $65, itll be $78. Ill just take the autozone 20% and spend $3 more to get it by Tuesday

Soon after purchasing my '14 All Terrain I got a Dynomax catback system for it. It's 3" from the cat to the mufflers, and then 2-1/2" after the mufflers to the tips. It came with 3" but they looked way too small on such a big truck so I later bought Dynomax 4" tips from Summit.
System cost = $695. Tip upgrades were another $70.

 

The system sounds fantastic. It's not obnoxious at all, and has virtually zero drone at highway cruising speeds. You hear it when you stand on the throttle wide open, but for regular driving and highway cruising it is very pleasant.
I've made two 2400 mile trips to CO in it with ladies in the cab, and had no complaints of it being too loud or having a resonating drone.

 

The other nice thing about the Dynomax is that it installs using all the factory hanger points. Me and a friend were able to remove the factory setup and install the Dynomax catback in under 2 hours start to finish. And that was laying in the driveway with the truck on jackstands, not using a shop lift.

This system has dual pipes which exit straight out the back under the rear bumper (one on each side).

 

I highly recommend the Dynomax system for the price. Magnaflow and Borla are great, but they're just too proud of their products and I couldn't justify the cost.
