New to me 2014 Sierra

I recently picked up a 2014 Sierra All Terrain with 40,000 miles on it, coming from an 2005 Sierra. There are a couple issues i want to address and have tried to read this form for fixes, but may not have found a specific answer or the threads were very lengthy to try and find an answer.

 

1) My drivers side, lower seat heater only heats up the back of the lower cushion. The middle and front of the cushion are dead cold, Is it possible for part of the element to work? If the element is the problem, can someone help with a part number for this? I have leather, bucket seats with heat only. I can find a cloth part number, but not for leather.

 

2) My frame is pretty rusty, I read the TSB on this. Is it safe to assume that a dealer will not cover this for me, since I am not the original owner? If I am on my own with this what is the best and reasonably easy repair.

 

3) The headlights suck. How can I tell if the TSB has been completed on my truck for the BSM higher voltage output? I have verified it has the correct bulbs. I also read the bulbs not being fully seated was an issue, how many degrees does the bulb turn to know it is fully seated.

 

4) Is there any other known issues I should know or take care of as a new owner? The truck is clean and bone stock.

2) Where is the frame really rusty? If you can get access to the rust, I would use a drill with a cone shaped wire brush to remove the rust/clean the metal. Then I would paint it with some semi-gloss high temp engine paint. I have a show car and did this for it long ago. The paint is still holding up well and is easy to wipe down for really big show events. If you have the time to go this route, put several coats of the paint on the frame....like 6. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next. If you don't have the time and need to do this bit by bit, there are chemicals out there that will remove rust, but you will still have to prep/paint the frame after all the rust is removed.

 

3) I haven't read about this issue, but I am thinking of going to aftermarket HID lights anyway so...

 

4) You are in the right section for the known issues. I got my 2014 Silverado back in March so I'm still getting used to the truck. But I have changed the cabin air filter (if you buy any used car that has one, definitely change it first!), I change my own oil and bought new tires for it. So far, the only thing I don't like about my truck...is needing a step ladder to add motor oil! hehehe. This truck is definitely bulkier than my 1984 Silverado But the one thing I will always love about my old truck...NO COMPUTER and its easy as hell to repair.

The headlights suck and they suck a little less after the TSB. So unless you go after market don't expect to much.

 

The seats heat up real slow in the 2014 Just fyi even after you fix the defective pad in yours.

 

The wax coating never stuck well on the 2014 it does seem to hold better on my new truck but I will wait and see how it fairs this winter.

 

I was removing all of the loose wax on my 2014 and just spraying bed liner on the exposed spots.

I had the drivers side heating pad replaced on mine 2 years ago and mine heat up nice and quick on both drivers and passenger side...just not with remote start.

 

The headlights suck and they suck a little less after the TSB. So unless you go after market don't expect to much.

That link also says with cloth. Mine is leather with heat only. Is the cloth and leather only element the same?

the third seat lower in that same link it shows a #14 and lists for leather.

Here s a pic of my headlight beam pattern, notice the weird lines. Anyone know whats going on here?

That picture of your headlights is definitely not right. There should be a very distinct and clean horizontal break. That looks like what happened to my Sierra after the dealer did the bulb update. I had to re-seat both of the bulbs and re-aim them. I will say that seating the bulbs wasn't totally easy. While easy enough to get to, I made a lot of frustrating attempts to get it to look right and eventually the bulbs seated into place correctly. The key may be to make sure the bulb is held by all the clips, but it takes a while to get it right.

Thanks Enthusiast! Drivers side was not seated correctly. Will drive tonight to see how the passenger side is doing, didn't want to pull the airbox if I didn't have to.
