Hello everyone....we are launching a all new camera system for 2014-2016 Chevy and GMC Vehicles that have the 8" MyLink/Intellilink System. We are hoping to have some options for the Cadillac CUE very soon. We can add more info on these as we go...but I wanted to get a thread started. Pretty sweet system if your looking for camera functionality...kind of our version of the Intellihaul System. No tow mirrors required.

 

Website has quite a bit of info as far as fitments go...as well as pricing. I cant offer a real big discount on these unfortunately, but we can likely swing a $50.00 discount for members here. I'll work on a coupon code over the next couple days.

The side camera offered on the site are good, but basic...I am going to be testing some new ones in the next week or so. These are good, but I'm looking for more definition personally without going to big at the same time.

 

I'm sure there will be more questions...etc. Please TEXT me and I'll be happy to answer them. I'm not in here a ton, so hopefully anyone that has questions that gets answered by my TEXT can put it in here so it benefits everyone. Appreciate the help and support as always!

I got my MVI module yesterday and installed it last night partially (without turn signal cameras). Pressing the back button with MVI's module also brings up the cameras (defaulting to the front camera). Tapping the screen gets you options for left, right, front, and rear. Rear is not the same as the factory rear although I think they can give you that as an option. I used the rear input for a camera over my kids car seat. There is also an option in settings to choose which rear camera comes on when you put the vehicle in reverse (factory rear or the rear input on the module). The module also gets you an HDMI input and settings for how you would like to trigger the cameras. One option is to trigger the front camera below 10 miles per hour so pulling into spaces or anytime below 10 mph the front camera would kick in until you come to a complete stop. I turned that off as I typically pull through spaces in parking lots and use my rear camera (rear camera in motion is also an MVI option you get get with a harness and their HMI programming which is a separate service) to make sure I've crossed the line. The icons it adds to the screen aren't truly icons. You can't shift them around like the factory icons. I was slightly disappointed in that because I had hoped I could move the Cameras and HDMI icons to my main screen but again you can quickly get to Cameras by holding the back button. The three new icons show on a third screen if you arrow over to the right but I'll be using the back button to access them quickly and the screen if i need to get to HDMI or the settings. I'd still like to get the mirrors with integrated cameras for left and right but I'm not sure Echomaster will sell them standalone. I may go another route later on for left and right. Took me about 2 hours to put the system in (not including side cameras) and I already had my front camera and the camera over my kids car seat installed. Running cameras would take additional time. I have not decided where I am going to mount the HDMI and USB connections so they are just tucked under the dash. They are separate and not combined as they are with MVI's AV module. You would need to drill (2) 1.25 inch holes to mount both of those permanently on a flat surface. I will say I was set on getting the Echomaster system but when Anthony told me he was working on something and I saw his demo in the thread I changed my mind. I have his HMI unlock with rear camera in motion and portions of his front camera system. I'm going to try to get a more in depth review up soon with some video (although I won't include the actual connections as he provides that when you purchase the system). I'll be glad to answer any questions and hopefully I can get some more info with pictures and video up soon.

Just finished installing the 360 system from Anthony and the folks at MVI in my 2017 GMC Sierra Denali. I already had my HMI unlocked from MVI, but I don't believe it's required for camera install. I started with testing the system first, we weren't sure it would operate in 2017s, after pulling dash pieces and verifying it worked, I started with passenger door, I must have paused and watched over and over again Anthony's video on door and mirror removal and camera mirror install. Door removal is straight forward, just take your time, mirror glass was tough for me and using a pry tool, I cracked the glass. It was a hard lesson learned, but I did better in drivers side :) I chose to only drill hole for camera and install without permanently securing it to mirror, so I could align camera after it's back on door. After putting mirror and passenger door back together, I moved onto drivers side, wow did it go a lot quicker! And this time just used my hands to pull mirror up and popped right off! After installing drivers camera, again not permanently securing to mirror yet, I put drivers side back together. Then it was time to route mirror camera wires to dash center. I then installed my switch provided by Anthony to allow me to switch power on and off of rear OEM camera. This is not required, but I didn't want my OEM camera to always be powered ON. You will need to purchase a pigtail, if you want to see OEM camera on 360 interface. I then tested system one more time before tucking all wires back in dash. After I reinstalled nav and center trim it was time to align cameras for permanent placement. My daughter helped with this step, my cameras have a nice wide angle, I was able to see a little of truck and completely see my blind spot. The mirror cameras I chose, only use 3M adhesive and will last a long time if installed properly. Key is to wipe area with alcohol pads and then using a heat gun, gently heat bottom of mirror and adhesive from camera. Don't go crazy with it or u could damage camera. You will see adhesive become shiny as it warms up. After heating, just a firm press for 15-30 seconds and it's good to go. I've had the system for about 2 weeks now and really happy with it, I have had one or two things unique to 2017 that I have talked with Anthony about but that's it. He's working on a different cable that will hopefully solve those two issues.

 

One thing I forgot to mention above...I found the use of zip ties taped together, as Anthony uses, invaluable! In the past, I used wire but zip ties are so much easier, especially when it came to routing wires in mirror and through door boot.

 

Lastly, NO WAY I could have done this without Anthony and MVI. I watched all the videos (several times) and still had questions during install and they were always there to help!!!!

Good write up and I agree Anthony at MVI is great. He's really helped to make my truck my own. I use the camera I put over my daughter's car seat all the time. Can't wait to get some turn signal cameras but I'm holding out for something with a more OE look like the ones with the Intellihaul system.

Great write up and review from both of you. Question, can a person just add a front camera without side one's and keep the OEM rear.

If you just want the front camera you have 2 options I'm aware of from MVI. One involves using the rear camera input and switching between cameras but I'm not sure that will work without the HMI Unlock Service because you only get the picture in reverse unless you get rear camera in motion through the HMI Unlock Service. Your other option would be to install this 360 kit and not hookup side cameras. This is essentially what I have right now. I have a front camera and used the rear input for my car seat camera. No side cameras are connected right now. The rear input for the 360 module is not your factory rear. You can use it for cargo or miscellaneous as I have done. If you want it to be the factory rear MVI will probably have to provide some kind of harness. Text Anthony. I'm sure he can work something out for you. His number is in the thread somewhere.

We definitely have a couple options for adding front camera. Really just depends on if you need the auto switch or not.

I have installed the 360 camera system that MVI offers. The system is amazing!! The system is relatively easy to install. I used cameras off of amazon for the side cameras. They provided me a cleaner looking end product.

This is the final outcome. All mirror functions were retained.

The view from this placement is also comparable to the views of other cameras mounted on the outsides of the mirror housing.

 

 

 

Disassembly of the door was an easy to do task. MVI provides a good instructional video on it. If you want stills, message me and I'll send them to you.

One thing I did do to help reduce the risk of scratching the door's upper trim while removing the lower trim is I added tape. This is right above where the two pieces meet, as it required some jimmying.

Taking the mirror housing off of the door is required. Be sure to support the mirror while removing the 3 nuts. There is also a two pronged plastic clip that keeps the mirror on.

Once I had the mirror housing off and on a surface it can be worked on, I put a piece of tape to mark where I wanted to drill. 1" up and 1" over.

I then used 2 hole saws that were the same size to drill into the housing. The first one was standard and was used to mark the hole. The second saw was modified to prevent me from drilling into the motor of the folding mechanism.

At this point I ran a zip tie through the hole and housing. Taped my camera wire to the zip tie. Then fed it through the channel under the folding mechanism motor.

I also went ahead and cut the wire on the camera that gave it parking lines (green wire). Then I wrapped that section with duck tape, as it is a weak point. And as you pull it through the door and everything, it may pull apart. Then you have tiny tiny wires to put back together.

At this point I put the mirror back on the truck, and ran the wire through all the grommets and everything inside the door to get it to the boot that connects the door electronics to the cab.

I made the connections here in the boot. That way if the door ever needs to be removed, I'll be able to disconnect the camera at the same time without any fuss. (I know what you're thinking, "why would you ever have to remove the door?" Well, you just never know.)

I then ran the video line and power wires through the dash and into the center console. I used a power block (from autozone, $14.99) and piggy backed my power off of a cigarette lighter. This way I could have all the cameras tie in at one place.

Then I put everything back together, and viola!!

 

On a side note, I also hid my HDMI and USB ports in my upper glove box.
