Hey guys, my name is Trey and I am 16 years old (I read the rules and I couldn't find anything about age restriction but if there is, just delete me lol). I have never owned a vehicle but I am going to be getting one soon. I was initially looking at a Ford Excursion 6.0 powerstroke, but those are too expensive at the moment. I need a long wheelbase vehicle so I can tow the bass boat, and Suv's are cheaper than trucks. Right now I am looking at the GMC Yukon Denali XL's (2500 with the 6.0 vortec), I like the way they look over the suburbans and they are cheap (I see 6-10k around). That's my story as to why I'm here right now. When I get the Yukon I'll be doing tons of mods like tunes and stuff, but that will come later!

You don't need a 3/4 ton for a bass boat and I don't see why you need a long wheelbase to tow a bass boat. Also I prefer trucks over SUVs because they're more versatile and has a higher tow and haul capacity when compared to an equal SUV.

Just my opinions, it's your money so it's up to you. Just don't get your hopes up if you can't get what you want as your first vehicle. Sometimes you have to kind of take what you can get.

I say I want a long wheelbase because partially it does tow better, and because there is a ton of storage space in the XL and going to fishing tournaments, I bring a ton of gear, it barely fits in my dads excursion haha also the XL is within price range, I've been saving for a while!

Surprised your not into Subaru. lol. Anyhow good luck!

I don't get the joke please explain lol

Oh just a lot of young people seem to like foreign cars as drivers instead of trucks or SUV.

Yeah a lot of kids my age like the subarus and nissans. My main hobby is bass fishing tournaments so I need a good rig haha

Welcome! Personally, if you like the Yukon Denali's of that era I would say stick with the 1500 series (they are lighter and parts are usually a bit cheaper) plus it will still have way more then enough pull power to any bass boat I can think of and you still get the 6.0 vortec. Also dont limit yourself to only the XL, or only the 2500 just try to find the nicest best maintained model you can. Again even the 1500 short wheelbase is more then enough to pull that bass boat safely.

Side note even if you do find a power stoke excursion within your budget (under 10k) dont buy it as your first vehicle, they are extremely expensive to maintain you will spend thousands more keeping it running then you would on a good Vortec motor which will do all your pulling just fine plus deliver a way better ride.

Just my .02 in the end buy/drive what makes you happy thats all that really matters

It does but I still prefer a truck over an SUV. You can always buy a cap for the truck bed and if you need to haul something big just remove the cap. Can't remove the roof of an SUV, well not since the 80s anyway. Plus a truck has leaf springs while SUVs have coil springs for the rear which leafs are better for towing in my opinion. The coils just give a better ride since SUVs are more designed for hauling people and not heavy towing. Again you will be perfectly fine with a 1/2 ton to tow a bass boat, it's not like you're towing a small yacht. If you just look for a 1/2 ton you might can get something newer instead fo looking for a 3/4 ton since you really don't need a 3/4 for a bass boat. But still, do what you want, just giving my opinion.

It depends on the area, trucks and suvs run about the same used around here. Look in auto trader and eBay. Whatever you do stay clear of the 6.0 ford anything.

Haha the 6.0 powerstroke is actually one of the best powerstrokes ford ever made, after it's been studded and bulletproofed, my dad has one and I drive it almost everyday, the power is incredible! The 6.0's to stay clear from are 03 and prior, you want late model 04 and up.

I get really picky with what I look at, and I don't like the short version haha. I want the 2500 because later on down the road I'm going to have a travel trailer and occasionally we will pull big things. and the main reason I'm not buying a diesel as my first is because of the maintenance. the truck might be 2 or 3 grand more, but synthetic oil, diesel kleen, all that stuff is what sucks, plus the price of diesel is higher. Too bad the vortec 6.0 only gets 10 mpg stock haha gas guzzler!

Do you research, the 7.3 is the best so far jury out on the 6.7. I put 300K on an 88 after banks kit and gear vender. Pull 33K combination with it. My ford dealer told my to keep away from the 6.0. I went to dodge. Knew a few people who got burned on the 6.0. On the bright side you can buy the 6.0 cheap. It's well documented.

I meant to put best in my opinion. The 7.3 is a workhorse, but the 6.0's design is just better. The 6.7 is also a great engine, better than the 6.0 but the 6.0 is my favorite. and about the research, I've been researching everyday about 6.0 powerstrokes since I was 13. I'm dedicated to that engine lol. It's actually a good engine as long as you aren't drag racing or doing anything to let it overheat because when it does, pop goes the gasket without better studs. The reason the 6.0 is so great is because you can make so much horsepower out of it. but hey we all have opinions, I love Ford Dodge and Chevy, each vehicle has it's flaws.
