Adding tow mirrors to a 2017 Chevy

6.2Midnight

When I asked that question to the dealer, in my situation at least, they are not part of the package I ordered. I ordered a Midnight, and only certain parts come with that option. Technically my truck no longer exists, I have altered the build level. I agree, you would think because of the popularity of these mirrors they would make them a option, but they did not. My truck is just about as loaded as I could order it, even checked the box for these mirrors, but when it came in, they told me I couldn't order it that way. Needless to say, I wasn't happy when I we told this, and they ordered it anyway without telling me about the issue, now $2,000.00 later on to of the price of my truck, I have what I wanted to begin with.

I'm saying why is it not an after build option available thru the dealer. You can buy the non-fold mirrors/harnesses in a package. Why can't you buy folding/functioned ones in a package? We know it can be done. So is there some sort of engineering or wiring reason for GM not offering it? That's my question.

I'm not sure if this question has been asked or not. If you can have full functionality with the harnesses and mirrors swapped, why does GM not offer this in a kit? They would sell a lot of them at a good profit thru the dealer.

Is there a reason??

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for that. I was in the same boat as 6.2Midnight, just frustrated because I wanted to be 100% sure that I was getting the right mirrors. I went through tons of threads and every time I thought I had the right part number, i'd read another thread and someone would list different numbers.

After talking to 15HDriver, who I believe works at a dealership, he told me there had been several part number updates on the mirrors themselves. So after talking to him and to 15GMCSLT, I ordered the part numbers that I listed a few posts back.

They are the OEM chrome towing mirrors with these WORKING options

Power adjust

Power Fold

Reverse Tilt

Heated

Memory

Amber running light

Turn signals

LED reverse/cargo light

The only features that I LOST, which ISN'T AVAILABLE on the towing mirrors is

Auto dimming

Puddle lamp

I've read a few posts that said you have to have some type of programming/reprogramming in order to make the memory seat option work, but I had none at all and everything works just fine. Now that could possibly be true on a LT or SLE truck, but as far as my fully loaded All Terrain goes, there was no programming needed.

Ok guys, I have been reading through here and just want to make sure I get this right.

I just traded in my F150 for a 2017 black on black sierra Denali 1500. (About time I got rid of that ford lol )

The Denali has power fold mirrors from factory but just the little ones, I want the power fold tow mirrors on it and was told by a parts guy that the 1500 tow mirrors don't powerfold??

Do I just order the tow mirrors for the 2500 that have powerfold ? Sorry guys I'm lost.

Tow mirrors can be added to anything - and they do power fold..........

These mirrors are:

  • Chrome memory equipped
  • Upper glass, power-folding and manual extending
  • Integrated turn signal indicators consisting of 51 square inch flat mirror surface positioned over a 24.5 square inch convex mirror surface with a common head and lower convex spotter glass (convex glass is not heated and not power adjustable)
  • Auxiliary cargo lamp for backing up (helps to see trailer when backing up with a trailer) and amber auxiliary clearance lamp

Hey Krusty, that link isn't opening. I was told today by a dealership that I can't add them to the 2017's ? Have you heard about this ?

Take a look at this.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/q4eldhgg2x8i10q/Camper%20Mirrors%20-%2023371780.pdf?dl=0

This is the "Retrofit Plan for Camping Mirrors" doc floating on the web. You are probably getting different answers maybe because the document hasn't been updated yet for 2017.

I have helped several members here with custom door harnesses to make this upgrade successful. Mostly 2014-2016. I have reviewed the GM Upfitter electrical guide and the circuits appear to be the same as 2016.

Since you have Seat Memory options (A45), this guide specifies that a Memory Module Calibration is required for functionality for 2016 LD (1500) with DL3 and A45 (which is what you have).

I know several members on here (with Seat Memory) that have followed this guide and did not Memory Module Calibrations... but again, this guide goes to 2017.

Hope that helps some.

PG Thank you !! Do you have part #s or use the info from that document for the 2017 ?

Also, will I get 100% functionality ? Or will I be missing any features ? If missing, with some diodes \ wiring I should be able to "hack" the mirrors to regain full functionality correct ?

The diode mod essentially makes the White LED Cargo LEDs come on when in Reverse. It ties the switched grounds in the BCM so that when in reverse, the Cargo lamp, bed LEDs all come on.

The part #s you are looking for are 23171564 & 23171567 (presuming the guide is the same for 2017). If you are uneasy about going the dealer route due to varying information, I can make a custom harness set for you. If my harnesses don't work or give you all the functionality you want, I offer a full refund (minus shipping). The cost for my harness set is $200 shipped. You can source the part #s yourself if you like but I will advise that most online places don't offer a refund since the VIN you provide might not "compatible" for that harness and won't accept returns. Most of my custom harnesses are for those that are LT/SLE trims without the seat memory. So my worse case scenario prediction, is you might not have seat memory due to the Memory Module Calibration. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, so I ordered my chrome power folding mirrors from GMWholesaledirect for my 2014 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab LT Z71 with much confusion on which harnesses and mirror parts #'s I actually needed to buy for everything to work plug and play. After scouring the forums the mirrors I bought are 23241465 & 23241469 and harnesses 23171564 & 23171567 and the folding switch 23488411. After switching out the harnesess and installing the mirrors/switch nothing worked so I went back to my stock harnesses and found that the blinkers, power mirror adjusting, defrost, and power folding worked so I ended up finding the pinouts for the mirrors wiring harness and tapped into it and ran my own primary wires thru the firewall and into the fusebox for the marker lights and wired the LED's to come on with my Cargo lights switch on the dash. Now I just traded in for a 2017 1500 Crew Cab Z71 and am moving my towing mirrors to the new truck and want to know if my mirrors are capable of the extra features I haven't been using such as having the mirrors tilt down and LED's turn on when in reverse if I just buy the "correct" harnesses mentioned above. Anyone know if I can get all these features to work without buying new mirrors or just getting new harnesses?

If I need different mirrors I will probably just run my own wires again vs. forking out $800+ for new mirrors and harnesses again. The dealership was no help back in 2014 and is still clueless today about part compatibility.

Thanks ahead of time for anyone's input.

Hey there. The reason you needed to run the wires for Cargo and Park (marker) lamps is because on 2014, those circuits are not present in the door jamb connector going into the cab. On 2017, those circuits are present in the door jamb. You'll need a set of new harnesses that will be pinned so that the Cargo lamp and park are routed correctly to the door jamb.

Take a look a comprehensive thread I made below. This should answer your question. If you need a set of Plug and Play harnesses, I can supply those for you. It will also explain the issue you experienced with your 2014.

Hi Y'all,

I'm looking for some help with installing my aftermarket DPN tow mirrors. I have searched on here and checked with the dealer but I cannot seem to locate a part number for the female terminal end that I have to add to the door side wiring harness to get the marker/blinker/courtesy lights working on my '17 sierra. The dealer has boxes of terminals but cannot seem to tell me the one I need but say if I can get the number they will have it. Even if someone has a picture of one that is unused. Thanks in advance,

    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
    • $5.19 for regular...
    • My office is slowly filling with Blazer parts. Getting ready to do the big bang of repairs. Intake (second time), water pump, radiator, hoses, and I'm going to re-seal the timing cover where someone went hog wild with silicone. Might as well, because I don't think that's done right.   There's a local tow yard that I didn't realize also has quite the inventory of junk vehicles. This is an old school junkyard. No waivers. Cash only, you were never here if anyone asks. Don't piss off the owner, or you'll end up in the back of one of those cars, headed for the shredder. And if you see something, don't snitch. Cars stacked double high, wasps nests, trip hazards and junk everywhere. I found a few little odds/ends for my Blazer. The $20 I spent was worth the experience alone. But I was never there. What yard?   I officially love/hate this truck. It's so out of my wheelhouse, roughest vehicle I've ever owned. Every. single. repair. -is so hard-fought, everything that can go wrong, goes wrong. Currently in a hate phase, and kind of wish I was closer to sending it down the road with a lucky new owner, to be honest. Preparing for the day when I tear into this thing...lots of pre-funk with Ibuprofen.   Rock Auto sent me a bad reman rear wiper motor. It was a bear to install. The tailgate in these things has about eleventy-billion fastners and pieces and things that need to be uninstalled/moved just to access the shoddy rear wiper motor. The casing on mine was cracked clean through, btw. Nice, GM, nice. SO I got this new motor installed, hit the switch, I see it wig-wag (without the arm installed) and think I'm golden. Reassemble everything. With the wiper arm installed I gave it one final test. Time to clean up and take the other half out to dinner, collect a paycheck, right?   Nope. I hear the plastic worm gear stripping as the arm hung up. Just like my broken motor. Weak/old and shredding itself internally. I can assist the arm and the range of motion is normal, and it parks correctly. It just doesn't have the poop to actually sweep the arm with a blade on it. Oh, hell. Turned the key off and shut the shop door behind me. I get to do that over again, too.
    • A complete delete is the most thorough mechanical solution, but it is also major engine work. On a quiet truck that is still under extended warranty, opening the engine purely as prevention is difficult to justify. A plug-in disabler stops commanded cylinder deactivation, but it does not remove or repair the collapsible lifters, so it should not be treated as failure insurance. I would keep the oil full, document the maintenance, and have any persistent tick, misfire, or loss of power diagnosed promptly. If the engine eventually has to come apart, that is the logical time to compare an OEM-style repair with a complete delete. The right choice depends on the truck’s symptoms, warranty status, expected ownership period, and whether the engine already needs to be opened. We explain that decision in more detail here—full disclosure, this is our own guide: https://www.bluev8.com/blogs/news/do-you-actually-need-an-afm-disabler   One exception: some 2021 L82/L84 trucks have RPO YK9, meaning cylinder deactivation was already disabled in the factory ECM; on those trucks a plug-in disabler is redundant, although the AFM/DFM hardware remains inside the engine.
