With the way she drives you should get her a Denali...the 6.2 would probably be able to keep up with her ?

123,918 Service

 

 

1-1/2 Quarts used so far ( Quart per 2612 for the OCI)

Problem was the quart it used in the last 600 miles of that service

 

Shop did another AC-Delco Top End cleaning and changed oil, again.

Oil was NOT changed. Hummmmm. 

 

Starting investigation into a crate motor or a Jasper re-manufactured. 

 

I find from investigating the class action filed on these motors the issue seems to be a low tension oil ring that is a bit to low tension. It was suppose to be 'fixed' by the 2014 model year but.....another class action was filed to move that date to include models up to 2017. OCI's intervals were also too long leading to piston scuffing on the trust side. 

 

Jason is telling me that Jasper normally 'fixes' whatever the issue is during the rebuild. SO the call is to see if Jasper agrees with GM and what SPECIFICALLY they did to correct it. Otherwise the local dealership is doing this top end chemical cleaning every other oil change or once ever 5 K. This will not work for me. Stop with the band-aids and cut out the cancer or just bury it.

That was my initial thought as well. Thing is...did they correct the issue? My guess is no. Why do I say that? A new class action lawsuit was launched in 2018 to cover 2.4's to 2017 on the bases that GM lied about fixing the issue in 2014 and the newer motors are failing at the same rate as the old ones. Crate motors would be no exception would they? 

 

Jason's take on Jasper is they FIX the issue. That, for this motor, would be using standard tension ring sets. IF this is not the case then what I am doing is buying a sure problem in another 80 K miles. I'd literally be better off to set in the middle of a field and burn it to the ground.

Man....picked up a machine screw in a tire. Booted it and down the road $32 poorer. :crackup:

 

Fun fact. Sugar Bear has had a least one tire puncture in every set of NEW tires we've ever put on her vehicles. Thirty years of flats without a let up. This time in a Farm and Fleet. Not like she drives in the junk yard.

Tires/flats. Stay in the well traveled parts of roads. Rare for us to get a flat.

Here's a funny one. When she had her Colorado she's driving down Harrison, a major 4 lane in Rockford with thousands of cars a day on it. Hits a foot long piece of that green metal they use to anchor conduit punching a quarter sizes hole in the sidewall. Avoid it you say? :) It was laying in a pothole full of water during a rainstorm. Nothing to see. That's just how it goes for her. She's a flat magnet. I've had a couple of flats over nearly six decades. She gets a few a year.

After re-reading the original post I wouldn’t have bought it originally with a questionable engine unless it was really cheap. Now with the fears realized unless it wasn’t running I’d trade it in. I took a chance on our first Hyundai in 05. It was cheap had a great warranty. My grandson is driving it now, after wife, daughter now him. My wife’s latest a 10 year old Genesis at 100K miles if that engine went I’d replace it. The car is cherry. She wants to drive it 10 more years. I’ll go five. That’s the only way I’d replace.

And we start anew. 500 miles and still on the full mark. That there is improvement. :) Used a quart in the last 600 miles before the top end cleaning. Still....not hopeful. Once bitten and all...... ?

 

 

Oh, that top end cleaner takes the color out of the plastic rocker cover cover. :crackup:. Ceramic did not bring it back. Ultimate Black did. Still have a use for that product from Meguiar's. :thumbs:

Okay we've done 1,000 miles and stayed on full since the top end clean but it's time for an oil change. Is that progress? :dunno:

 

I'm going to use Royal Purple this time. Only because it starts out black and I've treated the dip stick to a good 320 grit cleaning. Between the two I should be able to read that stupid stick.

 

BTW this ceramic liquid wax is a monster step improvement in keeping this summit white clean. Still a far cry form the job it does on Victory Red. What is with this paint?

125,000 Mile Service

 

2015 GMC Terrain 2.4

125,200 actual miles. 5,200 OCI with 1-1/2 quarts total for this OCI 

5 Quarts Royal Purple 10W30 / WIX filter

 

"Used zero oil in last 1,282 miles since ring cleaning.

09/05/2020 Trip though coal mining country of middle Illinois. 

 

306.6 miles on 9.042 gallons = 33.91 mpg. By far best tank ever. Previous record 29.89 mpg. 

 

Abe takes Rex for a walk in Metamora, Illinois in the city square in front of the court house where he practiced law in the Illinois 8th circuit. Lady is a client of his.

9/27/2020 2,000 Mile Oil Level Check

 

A Okay!

:uhoh:

 

I'd love to get this thing on a long run. Killer winds yesterday with half the day into them. Still managed 30 mpg plus setting new peaks for 25 and 50 mile marks into the 40 range. 300 miles along the Rock and Illinois Rivers. Pretty drive.

    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken. 
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
    • I have 2 choices. 
    • Do you have access to BP fuels? Some stations have Silver 91 E-0 priced the same as their 93 E-10.  There is a local Marathon with 90 alky free for $6 a gallon but I go down the road to BP for $5-ish. They also have a 100 E-0 but that stuff is $10 a pop.
