2001 Sierra 5.3 should I buy?

Looks like a lot of helpful information here. I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice.

Long story short my neighbor and I are pretty good friends and hes thinking of selling his 2001 Sierra 1500 2wd 5.3 ext cab. It has 81k all originall miles. Never towed anything. Garage kept. It's immaculate. This guy (actually an older gentleman who has no reason to have ever stood on the gas) has carpet over the bedliner that's under the tonneu (sp?) cover. Seriously well maintained. Seriously clean. all records from oil from the dealer and kept as a second vehicle he only drives a few times a month. Leather, all the buttons. I can't remember the name of the conversion company but it is a luxury coach. It looks like it was converted at time of purchase.

 

My question is the value, monetarily speaking.

I own one of those that I bought new, less the luxury coach part. For a true value, go to NADA and option it out to get the numbers. I just looked up what I think you are looking at and got a max value of 8600.

For that kind of money the truck would have to be from a "never seen snow environment" and in MINT condition.

Never seen snow and he claims hes never towed anything. Im in charleston sc. As long as they haven't been dunked in saltwater most vehicles dont rust here. Not like snow/salt anyhow. Plus ive looked at it and there is zero rust. The frame almost has a lustre to it. He's trting to get ten for it and i van see where hes coming from. I thought 8 might be a good number too. Thanks for the input.

Sounds like a gem of a truck but I wouldn't give a penny over $8500 for it and that's only if it has the 5.3 ltr in it. Keep in mind it's 16 years old regardless of mileage and parts sometimes tend to go bad do to age as well as wear & tear.

How well do you know the seller being he's a neighbor?

 

He wants more than it's worth if he's asking $10k per NADA.

Let him list it on craigslist or else where and see what kind of response he gets. My guess at $10k is very little, tire kickers at best.

If you want the truck, have him prove the best offer and match it.

 

If the maintenance is so good and he's mentioning this prove it with receipts.

I would want to know:

Brakes; how many miles? Original drums, rotors?

Was tranny serviced? What was done, pan drop and filter? Complete fluid change?

Oil change intervals. Every 3,6,9, thousand miles?

 

My point is if he wants top dollar make him prove it with records.

Normal towing doesn't hurt a truck, so don't add any value from that claim. 10K is over priced in my opinion, BUT if you posted a ton of pictures I might change my mind. The interior would need to be factory, not the coach interior and MINT. Paint - perfect, no mods to the engine, no broken exhaust manifold bolts, G80 rear end with 3.73 gears, and then I would have a hard time reaching 10K.

If he wants $10k for it and a NADA fully loaded tops out at $8,500 then it sounds like he really doesn't want to sell it. Is it worth it? Yeah, to him and anyone that has the cash to purchase it out right.

 

It sounds like a great truck but you have to realize the age factor. Like all the hoses if original are pushing the limit on reliability.

sounds like a clean truck and wouldn't be a bad purchase but the truck is still closing in on 20 years old... wouldn't pay more the 6000 for it personally, 10 is crazy for it IMO... its 2wd too.. 10 wouldn't be as crazy if it was 4wd
