removing /disabling magna ride???

hey guys i been searching and calling people and have had no real luck yet, i want to lift my 17 gmc denali 1500 , and i wanted to do a 4 inch lift but BDS only offers a 6 inch for the magnaride trucks that have the relocation brackets for the sensors and what not, but i HATE spacers/extenders i want to buy longer shocks and coilovers to replace the factory magna ride option. does anyone know if this can be done, or what axxactly will happen if i install aftermarket coilvoers on my truck, if it will just be a light on the dash, i can live with that, but if it will be worst and undriaveble then thats not going to work. hope someone has some feedback. thanks

i was hoping to get some replies i can benefit from, and i did not even know the denalis came with magna ride until i bought it.

If they have a 6 in kit for the magnetic ride it is going to just use extensions and spacers anyway. If you only want to go 4 inches you can just fab up a relocation bracket or see if the dealer can do a relearn on the sensor position rod which should put the ride back to factory quality. Now I have not done this but am considering a level or lift for my 2015 denali and read about these options.

I believe FabTech makes a 4" lift for the Denali's with Magneride. They also show a 6" kit for the same truck. Not sure how they handle the relocation of the sensors or the relearning but they state you retain the factory ride.

yea wasnt a fan of fabtek stuff , love the build quality of bds. its surprising that its been 3 years or so since its been out and the top shock brands dont offer a direct replacement to swap out the magna ride system. i know im not the only one that wants to do this. i might have to just ride with spacers until they come out with a solution.

ok smartass this is not my first truck, ive owned a previous denali for 4 years, and i obviously checked the new one out numerous times , but i dont pay attention to what shocks it has as i always throw them out with icons as soon as i buy the lift kit anyways.

You bought the wrong tuck to lift. Consider upgrading to an SLT if you want a lift.

You are going to have all sorts of warning lights and possibly put the truck into reduced power mode if you remove the Magnaride. Either find a known lift that works otherwise you need to go to a truck with out the Magnaride system.

Bottom line is: If you don't want to mess with reprogramming/deleting the Magneride for the new ride height then you will have to use spacers and relocation brackets to maintain sensor position. If you don't care about Magneride at all then you can probably, as mjdxtreme said above, talk to the dealer and see if they can reprogram the truck to say a model that doesn't have the Magneride. The Magneride system has its own ECM that communicates with the truck's control systems. I'd be willing to bet that everything with the exception of the magneride ECM is the same on a truck that doesn't have magneride. It's probably just an extra input and a programming change to add magneride suspension. My guess would be you will have trouble going to reprogramming route but it's worth a try.

Lift or lower, the only dash notification that comes on is the service suspension. There’s no other technical issues/power loss once the rear sensors are unplugged. I put 2” drop shackles on my 17’ Denali and it rides fine WITH the magneride shocks unplugged, but I ordered bilstien 4600’s just for towing purposes. If you can live with dismissing the notification, you’re fine.

I had Lowered my 2015 Sierra Denali with Magnetic Ride Control causing "Service Suspension Soon" message to show up plus it wouldn't let my truck go over 80mph.

I purchased Shock Simulator Kit from http://.xineering.com/shocksims.html  which bypassed the "Service Suspension Soon" message and

truck was back to normal...
