Your truck's getting old..

Anyone else wake up one morning and realize your truck's starting to show its age? I use my truck as a truck since I own my own carpentry business and it doubles as my personal transportation and family hauler.

It a '11 with 110,000 trailer pulling, lumber hauling, tool toting miles. Not a extreme about of miles but with the hard use I would say it's equal to 175,000 easy driving miles. I try to take care of her but it's hard to keep it looking new. No dents to speak of except from morons opening their doors into it and shopping cart rash. I haul construction waste at times and dirt, gravel etc. and have yet to scratch it myself.

The 6.2 liter has been flawless except for the cold start lifter tick they goes away once warm.. Have to let it warm up a few minutes before driving or it sounds terrible. I've never serviced the trans. and I'm leery of doing it now but the engine gets regular synthetic oil changes. Replaced the rear pads and rotors but the front's still good!

Put new plugs in it and that about it. Still has the original battery!

I'm getting the new truck itch and it's hard to ignore. Problem is I don't know what I want.. Sure a 2500HD diesel would be nice but way too crazy expensive.

The 6.0 gasser is boring.. Had 2 of them so far. Time for GM to ditch it in favor of something bigger and more powerful.

I know I want the leather seats this next truck, a bigger bed then my 5'8 current truck has and " rip your face off power"!

Maybe I should get another half ton with the 6.2? I don't like Dodge but the 6.4 is nice..Too bad you can't get a manual transmission with it. Heck wish GM still offered a stick!

I don't want all the stupid wifi, connect this.. Connect that. Just lots of power, payload,a good sound system, good handling, gotta sit high and sound good!

Realized I might be asking for too much as they are building vehicles taylored to the sissy crowd anymore. A Dodge Power wagon comes close but it's a Dodge. Ford sucks anymore as well. Looks like I have to keep my truck...

Kelly blue book says the average trade in value is $ 27,700. That sounds really high to me. I would be very surprised to get a dealer offer over $18, 000.

An ancient 2011, poor guy. You should give it away to me and not deal with it anymore!

I meant it's not really the age.. More like I get in it and it's depressing that its getting old. I've never kept a truck this long before. Miss that new truck smell!

oh the pain of a truck being one.

I remember when the TBI was fresh, late 80s. A contractor we worked with went through 3 of the 350 engines, on the 3/4 ton. It rode so very hard. Broke the cab right off the frame, bent the bed in such on odd way it could only use its bent tailgate...

and the steel rack kept it all together. :)

that one left off in the 300k range someplace.

I agree about the stick gone missing, and iron engines.

all the power babble is nearly cut in half when a manual passes by with just 300 hp and 300 ft lbs...

To This Day, it is the same as it has always been.

until the diesels. I'd love any of the big 3. I have bene finding 6.5 turbos..and the nv4500, not expensive. If you don't want high HP and the real worker...great choice.

I learned form working trucks to not scrap frame work needed... snap things seeming to be a life long guarantee at any moment.

Well, there is only two more shopping days left in truck month... what's it going to be?

I've decided to try the impossible and look for a used 6.2 2016 or 17. Doubt I will find one though. The wife is less then agreeable about me getting a new truck lol.

My reasoning is that it's a tool, I'm a contractor and I don't want to deal with major repairs that come with higher mileage and older age vehicles.

If I use my truck twice as hard as someone who only drives one as a commuter it only stands to reason at 110,000 miles it's much more worn out than if those had been highway miles.

I have been a die-hard GM guy all my life but I still want to drive a Ram and see what they are like. Going to do that this week I think.

I put about 70 miles on all three's 250s two weeks ago. Highway, back road, and frost heaved two laners. The super duty rides the best, best perceived power, and most "commanding" feeling on the street. It won't fit in my garage, so I can't buy it. Still torn between RAM and the Silvy.

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
