LED Light Question

White Sierra, not sure if it is just the led bulb, but I did get an OnStar message on my truck and the wives Tahoe. the led bulb will only work in one direction on the license plate bulbs unlike a traditional bulb, that does not make a difference which way it goes into the socket. and, the best part is, the OnStar message never goes away.

 

Sounds petty, but I hate those messages... so much so that I may not change the lights because of them haha.

It doesn't pop up on the truck screen. You just get a monthly email from onstar

A resistor is only required when you are using the leds as turn signals. Just replacing the reverse and cargo bulbs won't do anything.

Yes, I believe they can. I just spoke with a forum member who used the 9006 bulbs in his Sierra. The DRL's work in the Silverado with no modifications using the OPT7's. I'm pretty sure the Sierra DRL system works the same way. Only half of the LED's light up for the DRL function.

 

The big difference is that the Silverado uses a 4 bulb system and the Sierra only 2. The guy I talked to said that he had ditched the LED's after a time because they continued to lose brightness. He went back to HID's.

 

There's a ton of info on LED headlights for Silverado and almost none for Sierra.

White Sierra, I have the factory GM LED's on my Denali, they are just incredible. I would say just do the conversion like others have on here, get the harness and get some OEM GMC lamps. believe me its worth it.

 

little background, I worked for Mercedes Benz for over 6 years I have seen lots of lighting technology including working on them, GM's new LED's where long over due.

 

btw the GMC headlamps are not serviceable, the only lights on my truck that can be swapped are 2x reverse lamps, 2x cargo & 1x 3rd brake lamp, and 2x license plate, 7 bulbs total. I swapped all to JDM & osram/sylvania

 

steer clear of Phillips on new GMC led tail lamps they dont work well IMO, GMC reflector is 1 of the reason & Phillips have lower luman/s output compared to other LEDS.

nothing. lights are a very "white" hue. the factory led's in my 2016 are so much better than the lights I had in my 2014. both trucks were/are LTZ Z71 models. literally "night and day" difference.

I am not familiar with the 2014-2015 OEM lights except for all the complaints on how bad they are. I believe you can install some high powered LED's to replace your current halogen. I would not go with anything less than 40 watts per LED for headlamps, most of the time it will say 80 watts total like on amazon etc...

 

2016+ LED headlights are not serviceable, they are completely sealed from a OEM stand point. example if they fail and dealer will replace the entire assy...

You're 2014-2015 will allow for aftermarket bulbs/LED/HID kits
