Service Stabilitrack and Traction Control 2011 Chevy silverado 1500 WT

Hello folks,

My name is Jesse. I'm a newbie, I have posted in the introduction form, and another form regarding an unrelated issue on a different truck.

I have owned a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 for a couple years now. About a month or two ago, the service stability track and traction control light came on in the display. Now the strange thing is, a couple weeks before that my cruise control would be iffy. Sometimes at work, and sometimes it would not.

So, after doing some reading online, I will placed the brake light sensor behind the brake pedal with a new sensor I purchased at AutoZone. That didn't solve the problem. I even took it to the dealership, and they ran a free 30 minute diagnostic and they told me that the brake light sensor needed to be replaced and that it would cost $260 or so and that my warranty company would not cover it since it was a component issue.

I do not feel like fighting with the local dealership. So, I'm trying to figure out if there are other issues. I have checked the fuses, power steering fluid, brake fluid, etc. Typically, I can start the truck and the messages will not display. But as soon as I turn the steering wheel, these two messages come on.

This makes me think that it could be a steering wheel column sensor. Now, this could be interesting to try to do as I have watched a couple YouTube videos.

Any other suggestions or things to look for?

Jesse

Sorry just noticed my iPhone autocorrected StabiliTrack.

No. The dealership didn't share them with me and I don't have a scanner myself. I will have to take the truck to an AutoZone or something like that.

I doubt Autozone can pull a chassis code out. Worth a try though. They usually can only pull powertrain codes.

Steering angle position sensor is quite common on that body style truck. On my 2012, it went bad around 20k miles. Then it went intermittent, and then stopped. And then came back.

I had the same problem with my 11, not saying this will also solve your issue but here is what solved my issues and I had a few more than you like evap and fuel pressure codes. I noticed that the in-line fusible link on the positive side of the battery a lot of green stuff on the terminals so I took it apart and cleaned as best I could and dabbed some dielectric grease on there and re-assembled. Haven't had a light come on in 2 months, cruise doesn't kick out any more and I can turn the steering wheel without StabiliTrack and T/C messages coming on. Maybe it was all a coincidence but it works good now.
