4x4 Shifter Knob

My 2014 4 x4 GMC Sierra has the manual shifter on the floor to put it into 4 wheel drive.

has anyone tried to take this shifter knob off the shaft . Is it glued on or is it threaded on.

As silly as it might sound I want to put a different shifter knob on it if it is a threaded shaft.

Those skull shifter knobs are cool as heck. I would put some vise grip pressure on that knob and see if it will thread off, if it breaks off just grind off the remainder and then glue your new skull on there. BAM make your mama proud. But seriously if you go onto like autoanything site and put in your vehicle information details it will pop up your choices that actually fit and you can research how it fastens.......................

Thanks for suggestion but that website does not explain if threaded or not (actually leaves it up to you to chose how its various shifter knobs come) and I suspect they assume I am talking about the gear shift knob and considering the GMC Sierra comes with automatic transmission on the column, that is a dead end.

I would just wrench on the 4 x 4 shift knob , except what happens if the shaft going into the transfer case comes apart...........too risky. I just hoped someone had done it (I wanted to put a Hurst handle grip on it (and yes anythingauto lists those, but site assumes it is for transmission not transfer case. ) thanks for trying though

Did you ever find an answer on how the knob is attached?

from the service manual:

Transfer Case Control Lever Knob

Procedure
  1. Using an adjustable wrench, adjust the wrench to fit the control lever rod just below the knob.
  2. With the adjustable wrench touching the control lever knob, gently tap on the adjustable wrench in an upward motion until the knob is separated from the control lever rod.
