New 6.2 smoking

Just picked up my 2017 Silverado with the 6.2 yesterday. Has about 100 miles on it now. When I started it this morning there was a puff of blue smoke that came out. Anyone else have this happen? Is it common with the break in or did I just get lucky?

I get a puff when I start my 5.3 with 25k. Been happening since new. No significant oil consumption yet. Will go from the top of the dipstick to the middle over 5-6k miles.

Usually black but blue could be something as innocent as pcv

I'd go normal as there is protectants in and on the exhaust for corrosion prevention during manufacturing and storage of the parts that burns off.

Perfectly normal. Sucks having to explain to your friends. But normal.

My '15 would do that as well. My brother in law gave me a hard time about it. He drives a Ram so his opinion really means nothing I wouldn't worry about it,my truck did it whenever it was cold. I tried to remote start it when I couldn't see the exhaust pipe.

Yeah same thing this morning. Just a little puff of blue. (For sure not black). Meh whatever, I'll just let her rip, it's all covered under warranty.

It's funny how the new di gas motors emit more emissions on start-up than the diesels do. My 5.3 exhaust was black with soot in month...My 6.6 looks like new. How long before particulate filters go on the gas motors.

I can understand the op's concern. I would mention it to my dealer so that your concern is on record. Your dealer will probably say this is normal "break-in" however it would be a first for me. I would expect any internal protection fluids to be burned off by 100 miles and the exhaust to be clear.

My plan plan exactly, and I'm sure that's exactly what they will say too.

My salesman got ahold of me this morning just to touch base and make sure I was happy. I told him my concerns about the blue smoke at startup up. I told him I would video it starting tonight when I get home and we'll go from there. He said could maybe be from breaking in still, but he didn't think that was super likely. Just keep a close close eye on it and we'll go from there.
