New Tahoe? ?

I'm debating trading my 16 gmc all terrain pickup for a 2017 Tahoe LT 2wd. Curious what type fuel mileage this might get with a 5.3 and 3.42 gears? My wife had a 2010 with 5.3 and 3.08 I believe. It would do 20 mpg at 70 pretty easy. Also, anything you really like/dislike about 2017 tahoes? This will be my first suv, but really wanting the extra room for hauling music equipment and capability to keep it heated, cooled, and out of weather.

Im all for getting new rides when I want them. Since the 14 model year there's been some electrical issues that causes some full sized GM to do strange things as low speed shut down and no steering. Among other problems. I read about it and witnessed first hand with my sons 15 Tahoe. When he would take it to the dealer they would be stacked up with vehicles waiting to get electric problems addressed, with a two week wait.

Interesting. I'll sure check on the status of the 17's and hope those issues have been addressed. Thanks

12-16 depending on how you drive. Make sure you don't get a pulsator, vibrator and hope for the best with the electrical problem random draw.

GM just came out with an updated(again) AC line to address those issues. Make sure the truck you buy has the latest one.

That's horrible mpg. Sounds like I need to look elsewhere for a suv if the tahoe is a true reflection of these issues.

Don't know about the 3.42 but my 5.3, 3.08 LT averages around 22 mpg, 26 mpg not uncommon with my driving style and that's driving an average 74 mph. Not necessarily extra room as compared to your wife's 2010, but compared to another fullsize SUV, maybe. It will do the trick for hauling, every so often I'll throw 500+ lbs in the back with no issues. I maxed out with the safety features but never used all the bells and whistles that comes with vehicles. But the safety features really grew on me and I really appreciate them now. Enhanced safety features is a big improvement in newer vehicles, especially in a truck that size.

2017 LT 4x4 5.3 w/ 3.08. Took on a 2000 mile trip and got 23-24 with speeds 75+. No complaints other than the dealer giving me the wrong headphones for the DVD. Switched to digital in 17 and the dealer gave me an analog set for an older one.

Wife's 2016 LTZ has averaged 18 - 20 overall per tank since new. Mid 20' s plenty of times on trips (freeway driving). Has been an outstanding rig so far.

My only complaint is the inability to install a driver assist handle as I've done in my truck.

You'll be impressed with all the room available with the third row folded if comparing to the 2010.

For those wit the 5.3/3.08 gear combo, does it downshift frequently when cruising in hilly terrain?

My truck immediately goes into "hill assist", which feels like a combination of one downshift and braking. The truck drives this way until the grade levels. But definitely no frequent downshifting, at least in my truck.

Thanks, I was pretty much set on 3.08 gears, but didn't want it to be downshifting frequently. 80% of my driving is on interstate with cruise control.

My daily driving is about 40/60 hills/interstate, but it sounds like you may be confusing hill assist with AFM. Yes my truck may downshift and brake on a grade, but it also drops 4 cylinders when cruising around 75 with no grade.
