I am new here, and tried to use the search function, but could not find an answer to my question. I also hope this is the correct section to post this question.

I just received some really nice aftermarket decals for my 2106 Silverado, and I need to remove the old Z71 decals from my truck. Does anyone know of a trick to get these off efficiently? Is there any danger of peeling my paint with the decal? It's my understanding that 3M adhesive is used for a lot of these, and that's some pretty tough stuff.

I know that I will need to extensively clean the surface behind the decals before I apply the new one.

Heat gun. I just did this myself. Just don't keep the gun to close for to long. It won't take much if you do it on a sunny day.

They are not perfect but it was my first time and I am not ready to spend another $25 for a new set.

I can't get a search result to save my life. I usually end up going to an internet browser and type in the question.

Did you use dental floss to get behind the sticker? I read online that; that helps give you a good starting point to peel from.

Thank you for the tip though.

Also, I like the finished result, they look good.

I did not use dental floss. I just started to peel a corner with my fingernail. It wasn't that difficult and I did not scratch the finish.

Like Knotsure said.

Just make sure you clean all the old adhesive off before you put the new decals on. If you don't they won't adhere correctly and you may even get some bubbles/ridges where the old glue is still under the new decals. 3M makes adhesive remover and they even sell a wheel that you can use to take the decals off without damaging your paint (but it costs around $20!)

I bought my 2008 in 2010 and 2 weeks later I took my stickers off with a hair dryer then clayed the whole truck and 3 step buffed it out. It looked better then the deal gave it me. On to my bro inlaw...2012 black crew with Z71 on the bed. Kept telling him to take it off, but he was all about it...a week ago he says "I took my z71 stickers off and I can still see an outline, help"......Clay bar, swirl remover, fine machine polish, sealant. DONE!

As stated, a heat gun or hair dryer will help to get it started. Then, 3M adhesive remover will clean off anything that's left over.
