I've heard that right before impact(if inevitable), to let off the brakes and hit the gas to get the front of the vehicle higher to help keep the deer from flying up onto the hood.

agree that it could have been WAY worse. I've known of and seen a lot worse!!

Yes, it looks like insurance is just going to offer me a check minus deductible. Ran around a little today and found a few good options that should be manageable choices. Didn't know it but biggest problem might be finding an aftermarket with parking sensors. Go figure.

I think anything that's not oem you're probably going to have to drill your own holes for the sensors.

I'm surprised I haven't hit more deer than I have...I installed a homemade grill guard on my Westin winch mount, two days later cranked my first deer at 90k miles...luck was on my side, not even any hair on the truck.

Now if I could avoid ducks...

I like the utilitarian look of the Ranch hand bumpers myself...I'm not into the Road Armor style.

The figure I've heard is that in about half of accidents involving animals, no contact is made with the animal. This seemed steep, but it does seem like about half the deer wrecks I hear about involve no deer contact.

My only deer collision was in my old pickup at about 50, no time to even hit the brakes. I put the grille guard on the new one as soon as I got it, and haven't hit one since. If I hadn't, would have hit 5 by now.

For me, having a functional headlights and a working radiator after hitting a deer was the top concern. My luck would be that I smoke one when I really have to be somewhere.

had a deer slam into the side of a rental C300 Mercedes I had about 3 weeks ago, scared the sh*t out of me.. the buck slammed into the front fender and front door and then swung around and slammed in to the rear door and quarter panel, about 12k worth of damage! thank god it wasn't my car! lol

Last January, big ole buck did the same thing to me. Ran into rear driver door and bed. By the time he bounced off the side of the truck, from the door back looked like it had been sideswiped by a small car.
