What car to expect as a loaner?

My truck has been in the dealership since last Monday, for warranty work. No loaner vehicle is given to me, and now they are saying the truck isn't covered under warranty and my insurance needs to get involved. Truck only has 17k miles and GM said it's not covered. Might be switching over to a F250 or 2500 ram.

What is the issue?

On May 27 there was a thunder storm that passed by at night, after it passed I went outside and turned on the truck. As soon as I turned on the truck I had a message saying " service power sterring", also the ABS, traction control and emergency brake were lit on the dash. I drove home and disconnected the ABS module since it was making a really loud noise after I turned off the truck. Monday I took the truck to the dealership to get it fixed. I called Tuesday to ask about the truck and my service advisor said it needed a new ABS module and ecm, I said okay. Called Wednesday and he said i need another electrical part and they had to order it. Same thing happened Thursday and Friday, and he told me the truck won't be ready until Monday and said that they talked to a GM specialist and said the part they ordered should fix it. I called Monday around noon and asked if the truck was ready, they told me it was still in the shop that it should be ready in the afternoon. Called all afternoon to know about the truck and he never called back. Now today they called me saying that GM told them to stop working on the truck and get my insurance involved because GM won't fix the truck because it had to have been struck by lighting and the warranty will not cover it. Now I'm waiting on my insurance to go and check the truck out, I've lost over $3500 since I haven't had my truck. Now I'm patiently waiting to see what happens.

When I needed a loaner my dealer put me in a new Silverado off the lot. The window sticker was still in the rear passenger window.

That sucks man. Hopefully your insurance takes care of it and you can be on your way again.

My sister had a car that was struck by lightening and her insurance paid to have it repaired. It had constant electrical gremlins for about 2 months and she traded it for a new one. My advice is if it was struck by lightening, dump it. Now days these vehicles are just rolling computers and electronics.

I'm going to talk to my insurance guy tomorrow, hopefully he can call it a total loss. I don't want to have a vehicle that will have electrical issues in the future after warranty is gone.

I've lost over $3500 since I haven't had my truck.

You know a rental costs much less than $3,500. If originally under warranty you should have received a loaner as part of the warranty. If not covered under warranty, most insurance (decent coverage at least) will cover a loaner with certain $ and day restrictions.

My truck is in the shop for a p050D code which has now turned into a possible bad head or replacement of the whole engine. Truck has 20K mile on it, 2015 SLT Z71.

They put me in a Buick Lacrosse lol

A rental car through his insurance would only qualify if being fixed under a covered peril through his insurance company. So if his insurance is going to fix this for him then he could get a rental if that is on his policy. Just getting a rental because your car is being repaired under warranty is not covered through insurance.

Search these forums or google "G218 ground". It's easy to check and I would bet it is contributing to your problems. Basically the main ground for the BCM doesn't make good contact and can cause the computer to get confused and throw lots of codes/errors.

The dealers excuse was that they don't give loaner vehicles, you would think they give a guy a loaner if they keep the vehicle for more than two days. I could've went and got a rental since day one, but the dealership kept on saying the truck should be fixed the next day, so I decided not to. Talked to my insurance guy today and was told the insurance is covering it since it was a natural cause, lighting striking the truck. I'm going to receive a rental today, I asked for a truck similar to mines a 2500, was told that will be hard to do since rental places rarely had truck. I was told I will get a car free of charge until the truck is out of the shop.

I understand how it works, that is why I started off with "A rental costs less than $3,500". Even without someone else footing the bill it would have been cheaper to rent something to not lose $3,500.

Glad you got it worked out and that can be tough when they keep telling you it's almost done.

I know the U-Haul around me rents out 1500 and I think I've seen a 2500 on the lot. Might be a place to look if you can't find it through a conventional rental place.
