Quick question im thinking of doing a engine swap. My truck has a 5.3 v8 I'm not sure if the miles on the dash match the miles on the engine. My question is what will I need to swap a 5.3 to another 5.3? Would I need the computer, harness, etc.? It's a 2000 suburban 5.3. It might be stupid questions but I just want to make sure I have everything before I do this. Thanks in advance.

As long as it's a '99 to '06 Gen 3 engine, you won't need anything. You would just use all the stuff from your current engine, intake, exhaust and sensors. In fact, you can swap out just about any Gen 3 with your current accessories. I put a LQ9 6.0 in my '05 Suburban. The only thing I did was have the PCM flashed to get the most out of the engine combo. It's really an easy job, relatively speaking.

So I wouldn't have to flash the pcm if it's just the 5.3 right? Just want to get this right n not throw more money into the swap

If you're going stock, no relearn would be needed. I would recommend a tune on any vehicle though. It usually improves economy and performance.

Cool thanks that's all I needed to know. the truck out of nowhere started having a misfire today. Got it check it shows random misfire but doesn't say which cylinder. I used regular gas today and the person I got it from said he would use midgrade. So I don't know if that's wats causing the engine to idle rough

Before you swap out the engine, you may want to have it diagnosed by a pro. I would be a shame to go through the trouble only to find out it was a coil or injector that would still be an issue after the swap.

Well not cause of that I just want to swap it out for something with less miles

Just hit 230000 but I'm not really sure if those are the official miles I just want something that I know for sure are original miles. Might be confusing lol.

Honestly, if the engine is fine mechanically, just leave it in and keep driving it and doing regular maintenance. It's way cheaper and a lot less hassle. Fixing the occasional bad injector/coil or other accessory component is cheap and easy.

Engines shouldn't be pulled unless they are completely worn out, or have suffered a terminal mechanical failure.

Lol thanks that's wat I plan on doing just need to fix the engine oil dipstick which it doesn't have. And the the random misfire which ironically comes and goes this past weekend man it sucked bad. And now it's fine like nothing was wrong with it lol.

Swapped the 5.3 my 01 in 20 hours. 8 hours undo, 4 hours push pull, 8 hours everything back. Kid had ignored oil pressure on a trip and messed motor up at 300k. Picked up rebuilt from dahmer and have been running fine ever since.
