I have a 14 high country crew cab with the 5.3. I have hauled close to 2500 lbs in the bed with no problem. (Have air bags and didn't realize how much stone I had) I have air bags which are great. I am looking to tow a travel trailer at a 7500 to 8000 dry weight maybe 3 to 4 times a year.

For some reason the HC doesnt come with the nht option.

Been reading up on nht and looks like 3:73 gears ,thermostat and radiator, is what i am missing.

Does the 3:42 to 3:73 make a huge difference?

Would changing the radiator matter?

I am gonna change the t stat to a 180*.

Gonna get a gd wdh and some other goodies to help out.

I have been looking for a 2500 in what i want but used they are going for 48k for a ltz, cant afford that since my truck is only worth 36k on a gd trade and i owe about 37.5k

WHEW thats alot of weight for your truck. We have a 6.2 with the NHT with the 3.73 rear end in our family. It has a heavier duty spring pack, HD cooling, Just a suggestion you might use a trailer next time for hauling that much stone. Im not really sure you can go out and buy all the things that come on the NHT package. Usually its built in the truck but Im sure someone will come along that knows.

Also stiffer rear springs, but you have that covered with the airbags which are better.

Gears will make a difference, but 3.42 to 3.73 is a small one. If you're going to tow a lot of steep grades, a gear change would be worth it, especially with a 5.3 6-Speed. But don't do 3.73s, if you're spending the money do 4.10's. They will make it worthwhile. If you won't be doing much towing in the mountains, save your money--especially if you're planning on trading trucks soon as it its an expensive mod.

If you have immediate plans for trips across Arizona, Nevada, in July or August (where serious mountain passes may be encountered in 110+ degree weather) you may think about upgrading the radiator. Short of that don't worry about it. A 180 thermostat--especially if you tune the fans to come on more aggressively--is more than sufficient and much cheaper/easier. It's unlikely you'll ever run into temp issues with those mods even with your stock radiator.
