Vortec Max - How do I know for sure?

We are looking at 2009 Silverado for my son. Most of the Vortec Max that I have seen have the "VortecMax" emblem where the "Silverado" logo is on lower front door. This one does not have that. Carfax looks clean, ( I thought they might have replaced with something if it had been in a wreck) but how do I know exactly what it is. He has sent me the VIN since the truck is about 3 hours away. He says it is a Vortec Max, but can I know for sure? I wanted to know before we went to look at it what it really is. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Sharon

Have the send you a photo of the rpo sticker with matching vin. Then you should be able to decode the rpos and know exactly what it is.

That vehicle is 8 eight years old, the above would only apply if you could be sure it still had the original engine in it.

Look for the 9 1/2" rear axle. It's way different looking then the 10 bolt that all the other 1/2 tons of that era had.

Here's the 9.5". It has a smidge flat bottom, slightly angled up on one side. (Photo in green)

The other photo shows the typical weak 8.5" 10 bolt that never came in the Vortec Max. You can see the bottom is slightly rounded and the "ears" are sticking out behind the cover. Hope this helps. 5adb4f4ceb900ef7a798b204d37b10ca.jpg573a79d184fef8f1cf4b0392e9e33c87.jpg
