Well, my 2014 Sierra is getting a new engine under warranty

Truck has 138,000 KM.. Took it to the dealership due to a tick/knock at 2000 RPM, lacking in power, figured it was lifters. Initially they determined it needed lifters, a new cam and valve springs. After attempting to install the new cam, they found it was "too tight", and ordered new cam bearings. While taking apart the engine to send the block to a machine shop for the bearing install, they found a scored cylinder, not repairable.

New engine for me.

So the moral of the story is, if your engine is making more noise than usual, take it in ASAP! My 2013 6.2 did the same thing, only sooner, but no one would acknowledge the issue. I ended up trading it off for this one.

I know right! I'm pretty happy with the result honestly. Curious how the warranty will work on it. Should be done Friday and I'll ask.

I believe your warranty will remain the same and expire at the previously established date and mileage. I had major engine work at 80k kms on my last truck and no additional warranty was offered. Regardless, they did a superb job and I got another 100k of trouble free driving before trading in on my current truck!

At a minimum you usually get 12 months parts and labor on any part a GM dealer installs. I can't imagine you warranty expires a month after they install a new motor and that motor is not covered in any way?

Can I ask did you buy it new? What was the service history? Oil change interval and type of oil and filter? Reason I ask is I am a maintenance maniac and never had an issue like this on any of my GM vehicles. But I do question the longevity and design of this new LT motor from what I have seen and read. The LS motors were and are great motors that go quite a distance. Yes some issues but overall a great design. I just traded into a 2017 6.2 and am hoping to make the long haul in it. Thanks

All the maintenance in the world won't solve a bad design. Let's hope that time doesn't prove that LT motors end up being crap.

I maintain it. People think it's brand new. Oil changes before the truck tells me to. Usually around 6k I just ran Mobil 1 full synthetic. My truck goes in for every little noise and I pointed out the engine squeak , which ended up being the cam or bearings, about 50k ago.

It will be interesting to hear if they give you additional coverage for this warranty repair as others have suggested. It would be nice but I suspect their obligation will not exceed your original warranty period.

Technically LT motors are an "improved" version of the LS, which makes me confident they will be at least good (or better than coyote 5.0s)

That being said, I wish I had a Duramax, I live in Mexico and GM doesn't offer 2500HDs with Duramax engines
