2014 Headlight Upgrade

I'm wanting to upgrade the headlights on my 2014 DC Z71. I look through these threads and see a lot of different options scattered around. I love the LED look, my wife's Fusion has them and the white light is bright and looks great. What is the easiest option for obtaining that look on my truck? Is there a full replacement headlight to serve the purpose that looks nice and won't kill me on price, or is it better to go with the replacement bulbs? Any pics and opinions would be appreciated!! If you've done it, let me know the route you went and how easy it was. Thanks!!!!

A lot of guys here will recommend Morimoto HIDs. If you want LED it's as easy as buying the LED replacement bulbs. If you don't have projector headlight aim them down some so you won't blind oncoming traffic.

The wallet and I would love to go with just the bulb replacement, but it just seems like guys don't like the fit, or they don't have enough output, or they don't t last long enough. I don't wanna give up the field of view I have with the halogens....is there an LED bulb out there that fits the bill?

I have a 2016 so mine came with factory HIDs but before this truck I put a Amazon set of HIDs for about $50 and I was happy. Go on Amazon and search for LEDs with some good ratings and you should be good

It's painful reading through those amazon reviews, lmao!!! Hopefully a few of the truck guys here can toss out their recommendations for the LED's....after some more reading I am definitely leaning that way. There is definitely a difference between brands from what I can see....color variations between two of the same bulbs, "dead spots" in the beams, not enough output, etc. I'm sore there is a really good one out there, I just gotta find it. !!

Here's mine with LED replacement bulbs in stock housings. I eventually want to upgrade to projectors, but these work for now. You'll have to aim the headlights a little lower so you don't blind people, but they're definitely an improvment over stock. The pic of them shining down the street is with just the low beam bulbs on.

I haven't seen projectors yet as I have Halogens on my 2015. The field of view on the halogens is huge and they light up a ton. Do the projectors decrease the field of view? I'm guessing they project farther for sure.

Those look pretty damn good!! What bulbs did you use and if you don't mind me asking, how much were they? I really don't like the halogen bulbs and my truck doesn't have the projectors either.

I have a guy that I buy them through. I've been buying accessories with him since I had my Titan. I want to say it's about $100 for the high and low beams. Great quality stuff. I can get you hooked up if you would like!

    • I installed the Auto stop eliminator on my 21 Sierra SLT shortly after I got it. They have a detailed video instruction on how, took me about 20-30 minutes to do. I was apprehensive too to start tearing apart a new truck but it was pretty easy install. Like you mentioned get some trim tools. I went to Harbor freight and picked up a set. If you can find some install videos/instructions to give you and idea for a plan of attack you should be fine.
    • If all oil manufacturers had to meet a higher standard for not just the initial filtering of the oil but that they had to improve on their formulation so that the oil cleaned the engine such as the Valvoline R&P or the new Mobil product ( assuming it works similar of course ), and the oil was changed on an interval based on good UOA data, there shouldn't be any gremlins running around like miniture rats on top of your heads to be washed down into the oil pan below 😁

    • A while back on another thread there were comments and thoughts on air filters and I know that can tend to be a bit of a hot topic because of outfits that have a vested interest in selling aftermarket air boxes fitted with the gauze type of oiled elements touting the lower air restriction. However and unfortunately I don't know where I have seen the test results in the past about the amount of dirt through a test procedure that these style of filters do pass more dirt through than a properly designed ( not some cheap Chinese knock off ) paper/synesthetic media filter can do. Lake Speed had a conversation on that topic with one of the employees at Donaldson and there seemed to be a consensus of these oiled filters falling short in the absolute percentage of dirt holdback.    Which all ties back into how good the air filter is on the engine at keeping dirt out as that is going to reflect as a contaminant introduced into the oil as well as cylinder wear even if some of that dirt does find its way out of the exhaust rather then the crank case. Put another way that one can throw the kitchen sink at filtering the oil and using a bypass system which I fully expect will do nothing but good for the oils contamination but if the air filter system isn't doing its job then its preventing the engine from reaching the best wear/lasting case scenario instead.    Now perhaps this topic is or isn't for this particular thread but Grumpy Bear or anyone else for that matter, do you have access to some scientific trust worthy testing on engine air filter types to get some proper comparison data to post up.
    • WOW, something we agreed on. I only bought at sticker twice. A 94 impala ss and an Acura intagra type r. Made money on the first. Still have the second.
