When I traded for one of my 2014's my 2001 f250 had the original battery. It had a insulation wrap around it.  Had good headlights and radio too!

Older trucks didn't have all the parasitic drains of computers, ECM, BCM, memory for radio, daytime running lights coming on while cranking engine, etc. etc. They are a constant drain on battery and if driven regularly it'll stay up but let it sit a bit longer or colder temps, anything to put more draw on battery at startup and click click click.

Battery in my wife's 2007  Toyota  never been replaced,  knock on wood!  I was going to replace it awhile back as a precaution but the service tech said the current battery charges fine and not to waste my money!

Is the tech now looking for a new job?

I just dropped the car off half an hour ago for an oil change and to check the battery.  I revived a phone call 30 seconds ago saying the battery now needs replacement!  (Car hasn't been started for a week but started fine this morning)  Not bad for an 11 year old Panasonic car battery!

Similar problem in my 2015 Yukon Denali.  Drove home yesterday, 120 miles.  did use wipers and heater due to rain, cold.  Truck ran fine.  Came home, unpacked, seats went back up, hatch worked, nothing left on.  Came out 3 hours later to go someplace, and NOTHING.  doors wouldn't unlock, no lights came on, completely dead.  Voltage check on battery said 4 volts.  Charged it overnight, and voltage holding @ 12.8 Volts.  Alternator is working--voltage jumps to 14 volts plus when engine running.  It started up and ran like nothing had ever happened.  I don't know the age of the battery, because we bought it "pre-owned" 6 months ago, but the battery is a Bosch, and I don't think those were OEM.  seems like everything is OK, but now I'm afraid to trust it?  Anybody had similar issues where it wasn't an old battery?

Batteries can fail without warning. I change mine every 4 years no matter how well it spins over. .............mileage means nothing.

Me to.

Have done this for years.

Not worth the hassle to have a vehicle not start when needed or change a battery in cold weather.

Changing the battery in my 2012 is not easy.
