7.4 L balancer pulley walking out?

I'm having some trouble with the serpentine belt jumping back one groove on the balancer pulley. New belt idler and tensioner. I tried to shim the tensioner out .060 with a washer, but it doesn't help. Has any one had there crankshaft pulley just all of the sudden walk .125 to the front?

Ive heard that that is either really bad or the nut on the front of the enigne holding the pully on came loose.  You might have to remove some things in the front of the engine to find out how its moving.

I talked to my engine guy today about my belt issue. He pulled out two different 7.4L balancers and suggested that they may have been mismatched at some point. There are two different pullies that work with the two different balancers. Now, I've got to pull off what I have and see what's wrong.

I removed a rusty pulley, a fully seated fresh painted balancer, and observed a recent front main seal. I will take the parts to the expert and see what his take is on it.

Ok, I know all three of you reading this are dying to know the outcome. The serpentine pulley is on the left. The V belt balancer is in the center, and the serpentine balancer is on the right. The balancer on the right is about .100" shorter than the center one. Additionally, the serpentine pulley hub centers on the bore of its respective balancer. It will, and did, wobble if bolted to the V belt balancer. I can only guess that "bubba's garage" did not have this information when installing the wrong balancer. 25cc19a949f2f9c770aa98a6767c6d4c.jpg88c0f624757dbbc8fe61e47692365300.jpg
