the ? is... can I "downgrade" from the '17 radio to the '15 radio (or like)

Traded the '15 for a '17 and I hate the new radio set up.   the Onstar "Nav" sucks.  I refuse to pay for turn by turn directions.   I want the old map back.  I liked being able to hit the Nav button and see streets as they approached.  I never really used it for directions, but it was nice to have visuals as I drive about 35K a year.  Yes, I have Apple/Droid play but the apple version (maps) suck!    The Droid aloos me to use Waze (love that app) but I have to connect the phone, use data plan, etc... If I am on a conference call it is interrupted... and so on.

Back tot he question... Can I  (for a reasonable price) down grade back to the version (I think IO3) form my '15 truck with ease?

I also loved the XM weather.   As I travel I could see bad weather coming and alter my route or schedule my stop to avoid the bulk of the storm.

Your truck doesn’t have built in navigation from the factory. The Nav icon you see is merely a tease for the onstar navigation subscription.

I have an iPhone but use GoogleMaps.   I’ve read that Apple has received the feedback and made improvements to their mapping ap.   I don’t know if that’s true, but if so...

i wish we could project any ap we selected to the dash screen.

Like others said it sounds like you don't have factory NAV in your 2017.

The XM weather is different and you should have it even if you don't have NAV.  You just need to pay for it through a monthly add-on with XM (it's called the "TravelLink" package):

As for your original question -- asked Chris White or Anthony from MVI on these forums.  Both can supply programmed HMI's.  But usually guys ask to go from older to newer so I don't know if they have ever done it the other way.

I have a 2015 Sierra with the 8inch screen and only onstar nav. Could I get the weather app from xm?

Answers to the questions you asked...

Why didn't I buy a truck with Nav?   2017 LT not available.   On the BS Onstar crap

I know I don't have Native Nav and only the Onstar Crap.

I'd like to keep the stock head unit as other functions are programmed via the radio... Many have had issues with heated seats with remote start once you swap out the head unit (and so on)

Apple only allows the Apple GPS app.  It is horrible. I have an iPhone and went and got a 2nd lone for the Droid function.  This way I can use WAZE.  While this would be a GREAT solution.. (WAZE is my default App on the phone) the Car play is slow and tons of bugs.   Crashes often.   Will not connect.   Etc...   Not worth the headache.   I also like the fact that a can hit a button and have a map.   As opposed to stopping, connecting phone, opening App.   Then you try to zoom in and use up data plan.   All bad solutions.   At that point I just drive and find the alternate route or street I am looking for.

I can not get XM Weather with the IO7 radio.  Not sure why, but the software is not an option within the unit.   I think it is Sirus (I know same company but still separate software).

I just assumed it was the same set up as the 2015.   I know this is crazy, but I didn't look at Ford or other options as I loved my 2015.   I now hate the driving experience in the 2017.   Too many comfort options are missing.  I will reach out to MVI tomorrow.  Thank you for the heads up!   I am hoping someone wants to upgrade so the downgrade will be cheaper (Ish).

What do you mean 2017 LT not available? My 2016 LT has Nav, I've probably have used it twice in over a year of ownership. First time I used it was leaving the dealer to see how good it was and second time was showing my dad that it had Nav.

Not sur show to reply to your question... 2017 (after 2016) it appears they only gave the option (in the LT) for car play and Onstar Nav.   Per GM's website they have opted to go this route "as most buyers prefer their mobile GPS options." and" cost reductions".

As for how often I use... Again, I prefer my mobile device (WAZE) for GPS beauty I drive often and I just need to know where a street is at times in an area I am not 100% familiar with.    Or, to gage when a highway is coming up while traveling long distance, or if there is bad weather and I want an alternate route, or scenic route along the highway, etc... AND, the car play is slow and has several issues with crashing etc... It also used up the data plan and I travel a lot.

Someone fed you a line because you can still get factory nav on an LT.  http://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/NASApp/domestic/proddesc.jsp?year=2017&regionID=1&divisionID=1&type=0&vehicleID=20064&section=oi_def&page=3&butID=3

To be honest swapping your cellphone to an unlimited plan for the next 3 years is cheaper than most of the options to give you navigation in the dash. All of the major companies offer unlimited plans for around 50 dollars a month nowadays
