1999-2001 chevy silverado

hi im new here and im wondering what engine is better for the 1999-2001 chevy silverado 1500 i want this to be  my first vehicle and am stuck between a 2000 with a 4.8L for 2900 and a 2001 with 5.3L for 5500 they both have a little rust on the rocker panels the 2000 has 190000 miles and the 2001 has 165000 any input would be appreciated the red truck is the 2000 the orange one is the 2001

No first hand knowledge on the 4.8L, but the 5.3 is damn near bullet proof.

Both motors are great and pretty much the same.  But I would pass on both these trucks due to the rust. 99-2006 Extended cabs 4x4 are all over the place .. you can get a solid one for 5K all day.  Regular cab 4x4 is a different story as choices are more limited..

I got a 2000 2500 6.0. It like the gas but doesn't have any problems towing. I'd get a 5.3 or 6.0

Did you look at and inspect the trucks?  Did you determine the extent of the rust - and does it meet your needs for the prices?

 

That blue one has plastic fender flares over the steel fenders.....bet there is rust behind those, so look carefully.

 

I have a 99 5.3, it runs great.
