Traction Control: Deafeats the purpose G80

I have not had any problems with my G80, but I tend to just shift into 4x4 well before any of the aforementioned situations ever occur.  There is no reason not to, people grossly exaggerate the risks of driving in 4x4 on pavement.  Unless you feel the steering binding, you are fine, and you won't feel that on any kind of low-traction surface.

G80 good/traction control bad...

I shut off traction control/stabilitrac as soon as I start the truck.

As most here know -

Stabiltrac will definitely save the truck from fish tailing out sideways into what ever happens to be there, especially when the tires are over spun  OR  the pavement is wet, sand, snow, ice  ... I leave mine on (off is cool cool if you want to go sideways ...)

(See Youtube burnout failures)

Traction control is just related to rear tires slipping - allows you to do as you please wheel spinning wise (up to a point) (and until you fishtail sideways /  if stabiltrac is on it will stop the sideway slide and cut down on the spinning as well)

many rookies turn BOTH off to do burnouts and then overspin the rear tires to the point that when the sideways slip takes over there's no recovery to driving straight again, because the tires are spinning so fast they just continue spinning (even when you let off the gas) with way too much spinning momentum, and the uncontrolled  side slide is the result ...

Well... not everyone started driving yesterday and can't operate a motor vehicle safely without all this nanny trash. My 17 is a total step backwards in drivability even from my 05... let alone anything I owned from the 70s through the 90s.. but you get used to shutting off as much as you can and dealing with the rest.  The sad part is people rely on this trash or end up like the tard in the Mustangs running into crowds.  Oh well... not much you can do.

You are way overestimating the Stibilitrac and G80, G80 goes back to 1 wheel peel over 30mph and even Stibilitrac says no go when you try to do a donut.

When I am in deep snow I need the truck to dip and slide to find traction, I don't need Stibilitrac fighting me the whole way.

Come on now.... GM doesn't want you using it like a truck... It's supposed to be on some dry freeway in the southern us of a somewhere only.

I love too how in my 2014 Impala I can totally disable stabilitrack because you know the rental crowd and grandma needs that in a front wheel drive car... but a 4x4 3/4 ton... nope forget it.

Oh and the whole well you can use 4 low... cool story bro.. cause in stock trim my truck won't even get above the stabilitrack threshold of like 35 mph or whatever in 4 low without the computer shutting it down... So what I can eliminate in 2 wheel or 4 high is no different in 4 low either.

They have different purposes/different benefits.

Which is why it/they can be shut off.

Ice covered road, tc and stabilitrac can say your ass.

Deep snow/sand/mud they (well at least the TC) need to be off. And they will get you stuck if you don't shut them off.

I'm glad they are all installed.  And I'm glad the electronic ones can be shut off when it makes sense to do so.

Stabilitrack is a hazard on an icy road... It's random brake jamming logic based on the yaw sensors doesn't work when the road is a rink.  If it gets to that point I just yank the abs fuse and have no issues getting safely where I need to be.  If I had a way to kill it dead the only thing left would be the abs... Oh and right... It's my 05 again... Detroit locker and all.

Everyone welcoming this will be a relief to me when they no longer drive and the autonomous car prevails.  They will likely just shut down and tell you it's unsafe thus stay home lol.

ABS and Stibilitrac have almost caused me to crash on ice, I needed more aggressive braking and needed to steer the truck but abs so nope you will have no braking and damn sure not going to turn the truck to avoid hitting something.

Remember when you could use the throttle to steer and could actually drive a vehicle?!?

It take a different skill set to drive cars with the nannies. I learned to drive in the seventies on junk tires, ice snow and wet roads. I’m ok with anti lock brakes, the rest junk IMO. You just have to drive very slow on anything other than dry roads.

I have no issues with the fact that stabilatrac will cause issues on the ice. However Abs does not cause problems on shear ice. The issue with not being able to steer because of abs??? Get of the brakes and steer. No different than without abs. If wheels are locking up without abs you have to get off the brakes and steer. If the abs is engaging release the brakes and steer. With Stabilatrac turned off and tc turned off. This should not be an issue? stabilatrac comes back on over 35mph. so sheet ice conditions this could be a problems in flat areas where you can travel faster than this.

We all bought new trucks for one reason or another. And We should have all known what the specs and abilities of the truck were before the purchase?  Am i wrong?  LOL>

You also don't have a choice of yes or no with any HD truck of any brand and I guarantee most people know what they are getting that are posting here.  So unless you want to drive some old bucket that is falling apart and needs restoring forever you just find work arounds for the nanny bullshit.  It does well combined with modifying the truck to suit your purposes.

I still fail to see why a car like an Impala has the ability to disable the stabilitrac at any speed and not a truck.  That is not a performance car nor a very good handling car for that matter and there is seriously no reason for it.

Yeah that would probably be the best solution, I have always liked the fact that the G80 did the "locking" for you over having to disseminate whether you should lock up or unlock now because you may not need it,etc.  I have owned 6 GM trucks, all had G80's for the exception of one, my first, a 1972 K10 short box with a "limited slip" option, using the same principle.  Loved them all except my 2015 because it does not allow itself to lock without turning the traction control off, may has well be like the Ford or the Ram, you have to "activate" it now, and it's totally not an "automatic" locking rear differential any more.  I realized this long ago when I bought the truck in 14' just griping about it now.  Yeah, and I kick myself every day that goes by that I sold my 72 K10.  I sold it to my little brother who was turning 16 (I was only 19 myself), he still has it to this day, and will not let it go.  I upgraded to an 88' 1500 4x4 short box with the G80, it was a 4 wheeling motha!

Not to change the subject but where did you get your skid plate system?
