Brand new 2018 Silverado comes with rust ?

Unprotected metal will corrode when left out doors just from the humidity in the air, very little can be done to stop it.  Coatings may slow it down but often all it does is cover it up.    Rust is very common, as iron reacts easily with oxygen.

Seems like we’ve got a lot of different statuses of rust “issues.” And while we all live in different climates and have different amounts of miles and such, I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a factory thing. I.e, mine was produced in the Mexico factory, 2017 SLT.
The lower “trim” trucks are made in the US... I wonder if that has anything to do with it...? Any input? No rust on SLEs? (Exclusively manifolds, as I’m sure we all have the same shit “epoxy” on the frame that comes off with the light touch of a finger)

Thank you. All I wanted to know. Was just worried if any of this would cut down my trucks life in the future as I plan on keeping it as long as possible..

With pictures. enjoy.

"Note: During transit between the plant and the dealer, some of the exhaust system components may corrode as a result of salt exposure. These exhaust parts are made of a bare mild-grade stainless steel that will oxidize, or appear rusty. Over time, these components will have a uniform rust-like discoloration, which should be considered a normal condition."

Good to know... just wanted to make sure things were okay and my truck would be reliable in the future.

I'm not sure about the distribution of builds but I believe all assembly methods and parts would be consistent between assembly plants. Transport may play a part however, my rust free truck came from Mexico to western Canada, sat on the lot for six months and continues to be rust free.  OP, what is the manufacture date of your vehicle and did it come straight from the manufacturer or was it a trade from another dealership?

You gotta figure it wasn't that way fresh from the factory.

Most crew cab 1500's, regardless of trim level are produced in Mexico. If the VIN begins with a "3", then it's a Mexican produced truck.

All double cabs are US or Canadian produced, regardless of trim level.

The coating on the frames is black wax.

Yes, I suspect that is what he's going to discover.

My truck specifically was a factory order. To the best of my knowledge atleast. Might have been dicked around by the dealer, but who knows.
