Wood trim wrapping

On a 2018 Suburban...

I started working on wrapping the wood trim in a silver to match more of the dash trim pieces. Removed the center console and cup holder area to get pieces off. The doors will be trickier as I will need to do the same thing on those and the screws retaining the trim pieces are harder to access. Also threw on a carbon fiber bow tie on the steering wheel but I will be changing that to silver but paint it or maybe black to match the rest of the badges on the exterior.

Got the rear passenger doors done tonight and finished the front passenger door too. Driver door hopefully tomorrow night. Couple of photos of the work in progress to show that on the doors I decided to not take the panels off and just did it on the door with panels on. Was a lot harder but I found that pre-cutting the vinyl to the general shape allowed for the heat molding process to go a little smoother.

Attaching couple more photos with the view of both doors and also passenger side fully complete. I will take better day time pics when it is all done. Looks much better than the wood and silver combo in my opinion. For $35 in vinyl and a few hours of my time I am satisfied with it.

I agree completely. Was so annoyed they did a mix of the silver and the faux wood. Well I finished it up tonight and the driver's door was a lot easier to do than the passenger front door due to the larger controls to access second screw in trim piece. Night shot tonight and I'll throw some daytime shots up tomorrow.

Hey I’m thinking about switching to my first Tahoe from Silverado.  The wood I hate, and when ordering my Silverado made sure I was clear they don’t deliver it with it, which they didn’t thank god.  But if I order the Tahoe, do they not make these trim pieces to match essentially what you’ve done, or will I need to do like you have? If I have to do the same as you Can you point me in the right direction on where to order, and what color it was that matched.

This looks great!  Nice work!

Are you able to share what brand and color vinyl you used for this project?

I'll find out exactly what it is. What I used was a semi-transparent silver that was as close as I could find and due to the distance between the pieces you would never know they are not identical in color. I'm still on the hunt for specific color match where I actually might end up pulling them pieces and actually painting and clear coating them myself too.

It is 3M Scotchcal film. I got it through Fastsigns here in MN. If you have a graphics or banner shop that does vinyl near you, you could go there and ask to see the swatch for that product. The silver has a little bit of a glitter look to it but it doesn't show when laid because it is semi transparent. I will try to get the color when I get back to the store.

Can you advise how you removed/replaced the door trim?  I’d like to take it off to wrap it.  I thought it was affixed with clips.  Where are the screws?

Thanks...

I didn't take the doors parts completely off as the rear screws are impossible to get at. pop the window control panel off and there you can see access to one or two of the screws but that is how I did it is on the vehicle itself without taking those parts off. The rear doors I just did directly on the panels without removing anything
