Yesterday was the day to be upset, today is the day to move on.  Thanks for the reminder.

A guy at work asked me if we were getting the Tommyz66 fleet red.  That might give you an idea of how many red vehicles I have had.

The plan is coming together, we will most likely wait.  The dealer is thinking about ordering a 2019 with my configuration without deposit.  If we don't have one by then we will buy it, if not they think they can sell it..............I don't know if they plan to tell me if they decide to order though.

My first two trucks were red.  Then I got adventurous.  My new truck is ... white!!!!  Base model, end of year, deep discounts, last one on the lot ...

I have mixed feelings on this.  I feel a certain kinship with anyone that has spent a lifetime buying the leftover vehicle just to get the discount.  Hearing your story is like hearing that someone is leaving our club.  On the other hand, it's always nice to see someone get what they want.  If you see some cheap-ass hillbilly looking mo-fo in a white base model truck with the snazziest snugtop camper shell they make, wave hi!

My dealer has always agreed to order the configuration I ask for without a deposit.  If it's something they can sell (or easily use for a dealer trade) there really isn't a downside for them.

Are you after a 3500 crew?

Yes, going for the 3500 crew.  Originally my dealer didn't want anything down and then decided on a deposit.  That was part of the original delay in ordering.

If Flint didn't take the original order, then it's because they can't build another of that configuration before model year changeover.

Could be availability of some part or could just be the schedule is full.

Assuming they are actually taking the common/typical 2 week vacations shutdown, the getting a 19 doesn't add to much time to the order.

There aren't significant (or maybe any) changes between 18 and 19 3500 crews which could require a longer shutdown.

Ft Wayne, where reg and double cab 2500's are built isn't scheduled to build any 2019 3500's.

Thanks for that information.  I heard there would be a slight grill change, I would like to see that but cannot find any info on that.  I went through the 2019 ordering guide and it is almost exactly the same as the 2018, all the features I want are the same.

Found out it would be about $1500 to for door to door delivery of the 2018 from Pennsylvania.  I am considering that option as well.

if you were looking at dealer inventory you wont find an interior that's not black. I had gray interior in my last truck(which I ordered}. I tried to find one with a lighter color but could not. gm I stuck building black interiors. if you order you can get it but you loose a lot of incentives so it costs you more in the end. don't know why they don't have any other colors in stock. I think there is a lot better color than black. it shows every bit of dust and dirt stand out

Order guide usually lists things like grill changes.

Interesting topic.  I think our situations are similar.

About the same time that you ordered your truck, I ordered a GMC 2500HD.  SLT (general equivalent to Chevy LTZ), blue, value package that included heated seats.  Was told delivery in six to eight weeks.

Five weeks later I called for status and was told my spot on the production line had been delayed at least a month.  No further explanation.  Salesman said it was probably the blue color.  My guess is it could be the long bed, but with no real explanation it could have been the color.  Very disappointed with GM's failure to communicate.

The dealership on the other hand jumped through their hind parts to find an acceptable truck.  Wrong color, short bed.  But it is acceptable.  I don't know what GM's problem is with honoring special orders.  A little communication would have been nice.

Which likely means the dealer just guessed the typical 6 to 8, and didn't bother to get you the actual TPW when it became available.

GM really does not want to take special orders as it takes extra work to insure that the right parts and pieces are on the assembly line at the correct time to make it.  They prefer to turn out lots of the same thing with perhaps a few variations on it. I waited 12 weeks for my 17 2500HD LTZ DMAX - ordered it in Dec - picked it up in April. It took until late Feb to get a build week scheduled. BTW The latest I have ordered a GM Vehicle was May - that was for an 89 Astro - got it in about 6wks. Lots has changed in the industry since then and now with a major model change coming things are probably even worse.

I hear you on the black.  In the winter we seem to get salt everywhere and it stands out in the black like a sore thumb.

It is also too hot in the summer sun.  I ordered coco dune but would have been ok with gray.

I don't trust the dealer search finding a match.  Search on your own.  I ordered with a 6-8 week hand shake promise. 10 weeks later I found the exact truck at a different dealer and they WANTED to get rid of it.   The only thing missing was remote start, and that was added.  Just having your dealer tell you they can't find one doesn't add up.  All dealers won't do a trade with them for what they have they need to get rid of.  They won't tell you it is somewhere that they can't deal with.  They also told me when I ordered, no big deal, we can sell it easy if you don't want it.  At 5 weeks I started asking of updates once a week.  They were frustrated with me for just asking for an update.  I saved 3k, drove 100 miles, and don't feel bad at all about bailing on the ordered one.  Customer service ain't what it used to be.
