New truck! But a major question????

I picked up my new 18 Duramax on Tuesday!  We decided to drive it on vacation to really test it out.  While sitting at a stop light a lady decided her Lexus would really like to get to know my new truck...   she banged into the hitch which put a hole in her bumper cover (not a huge hole but broke the plastic).  I would guess she was just going 10 mph or less because it wasn’t a hard impact.  Anyway, I’ve looked the truck over and I can’t find any damage.  She thinks she hit the hitch and the exhaust.  But I can’t find any damage on either. Is there any specific places I should check?  I thought about taking it to my body guy when I get home and having him look it over just to be sure.  I ran my hand around the bumper and can’t feel or see any gap irregularities. Anyway, other than that I LOVE this truck!  Rear pic is post accident.

Insert a receiver hitch and see if its bent. Probably she hit the hitch at 3 mph if her foot slipped off the brake. Your probably ok, also look for cracks.

That’s an excellent idea.  Will do. I can’t see any cracks or other damage. Not even a scratch. There’s a scuff of sorts on the very end of the receiver...  but that would probably happen with the first tow.

You have a tough truck and it can take some rough play.  Have an expert look it over for your peace of mind but you have nothing to worry about.  I had a similar experience when my truck was with me for less than a week.  The newer the truck, the more it hurts!

I was bumped into on my old GMC Envoy at a red-light. I had my trailer hitch mounted the entire time since I always rode around towing my jet ski on the weekends (it's technically not legal in New York state to drive with your hitch on if you're not towing) but he bumped me lightly but his bumper got stuck on the ball and ripped a huge hole in the front end. I had small dings on the plastic bumper but no structural damage. His car had a ton of damage.

I'd suggest looking at the truck from the side to see if your rear bumper seems like it is tilted, that would indicate the rear bumper was tapped and knocked off of alignment. No big deal to fix though but it can help you see if you have any dents or anything on the bumper. Being how high up your truck is on the rear end and how much further the 2500's hitch sticks out the back end I'd say you're perfectly fine. The bumpers on our trucks are really thin and easy to bend to all hell if you bump something with them.

Do you have a pic of the damage done to the other car? If the other car only had damage to the center of the car then you more than likely just took the hit on the receiver and nowhere else. I'd still take it to a body shop just to have them check it out, it won't go on your trucks history or insurance if they just do a quick inspection. If it was my truck, as long as it isn't a huge dent or crease or structural damage I would just shrug it off. I have dents all over my truck already and am not wasting money fixing them at a paintless dent repair shop. It's a truck, it was meant to be used and have character from it's use haha.

Look under the bumper as well, lay down and look straight up. Her front end likely went under your bumper. I suspect there will only be at most minor scuffs if anything at all.

Yeah her only damage was he hitch. So I don’t think she actually hit anything else. She told the police she had hit her brakes and stopped. Then let off for a second and rolled into me. It felt basically like that. But I’m jaded as my last truck has <20k on it and got slammed in the rear at a redlight. It actually bent the frame on that truck.  I’m going to get my body guy to take a peek at it and make sure everything’s good. I don’t think she hit it hard enough to cause any major issues.

Do it for the piece of mind alone. I've been hit there too, and only had minor scrapes on the plastic and under the bumper. I didn't care much, still have the truck. The other driver was stressed out so I took some good karma and let him on his way. I drive off-road occasionally and parents live on gravel, so it's going to get scrapes thus why I didn't care. But for your sake, let them look it over. Seems that way you will feel better about it. It's your truck, do what makes you sleep better at night.

If the hitch hit the centre of the acura bumper, the car may have not bee wide enough to reach the exhaust outlet.

Car bumper is likely also curved, so not as far forward at the sides of the car - again reducing chance of hitting exhaust.

At the speeds you're describing I wouldn't expect there to be any damage -- to the truck.
