My '18 6.2 has a 5.3 intake box

I have a few intake box inserts laying around, that's what I'm calling the piece that has the opening that rests against the fender and has the foam insulation around it.  Well on a 5.3 and a 6.2 that part has a large air horned opening, but the 6.2 piece in addition also has or had)  a smaller oval portion that is opened up to seemingly let more air in.  So I have a couple of these inserts laying around and I decided to open one way up by cutting everything out of the insert so it's two big holes instead of one small and one big one, bigger than a stock 6.2 has/had.  So I did and went to put it in my truck and found that the insert in my truck did not have the second small oval opening.  So I put the big opening insert in.  I realized that alone won't do anything because the box is formed to the two stock 6.2 openings.  So I have an extra stock intake box and opened that up the size I opened up the insert to.  I also replaced the stock filter with a green filter. Took it for a quick ride and it's definitely louder now.  I had just the MIT intake tube before.

Moral of the story, is why did my 6.2 have a 5.3 intake box portion.  Anybody else notice this.

Same reason why 17+ gmc gets the blue lit gauge clusters and dash lights rather than red....using up in stock parts before  the model year switch over IMO

Do you have any photos? My intake is in the entrance room to my house, I would like to compare if possible. I put in an AFE intake, I was amazed at the dead space, baffles, and just how poorly flowing the factory design is. Although I am sure it is designed that way to silence the intake noise. The 6.2L has a larger throttle body which makes me believe they wouldn't use a 5.3L air box. Unless they used a 5.3L box with a 6.2L connection boot. Most aftermarket intake kits come with a silicone reducer boot for 5.3L's smaller throttle body and a straight flow through design boot for the 6.2L.
