Tx_operator87 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 This might be a dumb question, but how do I tell if my fan is electric or mechanical? Looking into aFe magnum force cold air intake and there's an option on them for electric fan or mechanical.
lawnboy-5247 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 As far as I know all 2014+ Sierras and Silverados 1500s have electric fans, I believe the 2500s and 3500s with gas engines also have electric fans. I think the only trucks with mechanical fans still are 2500s and 3500s with Duramax diesels. As far as telling by looking a mechanical fan will have a pulley and run off the engine accessory belt electric fans will be mounted to the radiator and have no direct connection with the engine.
SILVER SLED Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 If the fan is driven by a belt, it's usually considered mechanical. If the fan is secured to the radiator and driven by an unseen electric motor, it's considered electric.
SierraHD17 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Hd's all have mechanical fans, 6 liter or diesel alike. The fleet only 3500 Suburban which uses the same 6 liter as the trucks has E fans though
