Brand new Silverado - brake booster losing vacuum issue?

Hello gents!

I picked up a brand new 2018 Silverado (K2) a couple of weeks ago and from the very beginning, I noticed when I first start the truck the brake pedal is firm like there is no vacuum available.

I've been driving car/SUV over the last 18 years and only the time I would have this feel is if I left the vehicle parked like over  3-4 days. But this is brand new truck and it happens every morning. or even after work when I try to go home, that is being parked approximately 9 hours in the parking lot.

Is this vacuum losing rate normal? Or do I have a check valve or seal issue with the brake system? Is this a known issue from K2 that can be addressed and covered under warrantee?

I would appreciate your feedback!

If this is a brand new truck and you are having a concern, why not take it to the dealer and let them poke around?

A 2 week old truck should not be having a Vacuum Pump or brake problem.
If you are, it is clear something is defective and should be covered under warranty.

I second what Dan said, makes sense to just take it to the dealer since it’s under warranty.

Hello,

Thanks for your feedback. I am planning to take the vehicle in but I was wondering if this was a known issue with permanent solution or not.

it seems like non of you had any similar issues. I just talked to the brake engineer who is responsible for this (I work for GM), she replied that there are known complaints about the low vacuum pressure, but when the service tech checks the pressure sensor, everything turned out normal. So I may have to live with what I have. There wasn't any service bulletin available for this complaints. I will see what the service from the dealership say about this situation.

The Vacuum Pump is not a real popular part on our K2's

For 2019 GM did away with them. Problem is, if/when they fail.... they can send metal shavings into the engine as the pump is lubricated with engine oil.

Some are replacing them at higher mileage just as a preventative measure.

Pump is about $130 and its a 2 hour process.

Im at 110k miles on my 2014 and have never heard about the vacuum pump.

What would be some signs that its going bad?

Signs include very hard or harder than normal brake pedal feel.

Ticking noise from the pump.... or oil seepage from the back of the pump.

A few good threads below. Last thread link on bottom is the vacuum pump itself.
