I have done this mod several times in the past with a simple jumper wire. Both circuits are protected already so why the diode? Am I missing something?

The Diode isn't for protection its to get the operation they want.

With a wire anytime the cargo lights and reverse lights basically act as a single circuit.

With a diode depending which direction its facing will determine which lights come on together.

IE.  you can go into reverse without the cargo light coming on but if you hit the cargo lamp button both the cargo and reverse lights light up.

Alternatively you can have it when you go in reverse both sets of lights light up but when the cargo button is pushed ONLY the cargo lights light up.

Ahh I see! Thanks for the answer on that.

Definitely would love to do this mod but do not need 50 diodes...

PM @4weight and ask him to send you a few...I gave him some and we are passing it forward, he should have some left over. I say a few because you will probably ruin a couple on the first try or two LOL

Diodes are most definitely directional. Pay attention to how mine is inserted, and for the love of God, don't unplug the clips to make seating the diode easier! I made that mistake and needed a trip to my dealer to get my BCM reprogrammed.

When testing, start the engine, shift into reverse, look at cargo button. It will light up. The engine needs to actually be running, and to test with the key fob, you have to wait for it to get dark, or cover your light sensor on your dash.17cc1d5f0c8d5a2228adaa300bfaa1cc.jpeg

And as always... Enjoy your ride!

All,

I had done the diode mod and it had never worked for me until Meat Hammer mentioned these are directional.  I had the gray tip end in opposite of the photo above.  I just did another diode in the right direction and when I started the truck and put into reverse, the cargo light on the dash came on.  Done !!

Thanks so much MH for this info, can't wait till it gets dark so I can see the cargos come on with the FOB.

Ummmmm....that was SUPER easy! Contorting myself to get under my dash far enough to see what I was doing was the most difficult part! Thanks again for the help everyone!

Nice buck there Jason !!

Did you use needle nose pliers or did it go in for you easily? I had to use needle nose but then I have fat fingers...

It went right in for me.  These diodes that I have now are definitely larger in diameter then the first ones I had and went in and made contact really easy.

Mod worked cargo lights and bed lights came on tonight.  The directional instruction of the diode is critical.  Thanks again MeatHammer !!

It's so they don't turn on the reverse lights when you turn on the cargo light

My apologies in reviving an old thread but I was wondering if anyone would know if the photo in the early part of this thread, showing the plug and pin location for the diodes, applies to a 2020 Sierra SLT or have the plugs/pins changed?

I'm wanting to do this mod but can't seem to find any information that's spelled out as clearly as it is in this thread. The photo is a great help!

Thank you for your time,

Daryl
