Ok, my 17 Silverado 1500 with 22k miles has dirty grease and dirt coating the cross member from under the oil plug/filter area and all the way down  the passenger side frame rail to the back of the truck. Its coating that whole frame rail on both sides.. So i think i have a oil leak or they spilled oil  and it sprayed down the rail collecting dust.  Its only on the passenger side.  So service says today its not a oil leak, its not spilled oil, its the heat from the exhaust on that side heating up the under coating  is coming off turning to grease...  They also said its normal on all Chevy trucks.  I'm  highly doubtful so i had them put it in writing on the service memo... You make the call.. Yes or B.S. ?

My '16 Sierra has some kind of gunk on the frame as well. I heard it was to combat rust from the salted roads during the winter months.

Have you ever gotten anything at a dealer that wasn't BS?

Now i haven't. And i'm on a first name basis with them after my third problem truck in 4 yrs...

It is Frame wax.

Tends to collect dust and turn a light brownish tan color.

Thanks!  it  does loo like that. ,so its normal and  it to turns to a greasy substance on the exhaust side?  When my dog crawls under the truck he gets it all over his back..

Having problem connecting my phone to my computer for photos but after looking again today it appears it is over my whole frame underneath.   So it must be frame wax as you stated. I assume this is some kind of greasy undercoating and is normal,   and i'll  just  have to keep my dog  from going under my  truck. ?  I do appreciate your replies. Thanks! John

What would you like a picture of?

The area of the frame in question, whole frame, etc.

The wax coating GM uses will smear when touched/rubbed.  When you bought the truck, did you have anything done like an additional undercoating such as Ziebart, Krown, etc?

Hi, no. Nothing extra. Yes it smears and comes off when you rub your finger on it..and is brown and covered with dust and acts like grease. . Its on the whole frame of the truck .I never heard of the wax so it seemed like a oil leak and didn't even notice it on the drivers side until today. . I never actually thought they would put a greasy mess on your truck to undercoat it...lol
