I found that Titan sells a 36 gallon tank for the Canyon and Colorado trucks but not for the Silverado trucks. Has anyone found an aftermarket gas tank for the Silverado 1500 to increase the puny factory fuel tank?

I haven't seen any larger replacement tanks for the 1500 for gas engines. The reason you see it for the midsize trucks is that they offer a diesel with the ZR2 (and maybe others?). Has something to do with flash point of diesel being higher and fumes being lower if I understand correctly. I tell you though, if there was a way to add a second tank to make my third gen more than the 20-something gal now I'd do it. I wanted a diesel 2500 to begin with and every time I see that you can upgrade to a 60 gal tank with the extended range of the diesel I get jealous.

The reason they don't offer tanks for gas is the tank is part of the emissions systems on gas. They offer a bigger tank for a 2020 1500 diesel. If you look at a parts web site the gas and diesel use the same fuel tank. When my warranty is up I am going to install a diesel tank on my 6.2 gasser. A Titan diesel tank. It should work since the stock tanks are the same.

Had local aluminum shop fab up an aluminum tank to ride in my box much like a large yeti cooler. It's sort of like a (57 gallon) 215 liter gas can with big handles on either end and can cable lock to the bed tie downs as well as motorbike tie down to bed tie downs. Use a small electric pump to fill up when I'm in the bush for a week remote, no longer have to carry multiple gas cans or come out for fuel. I future proofed it by making sure it would fit in between wheel wells and under tonneau covers for future trucks. It's about 400 lbs full. At least if I need the box space I can always use up some of the fuel and couple guys can get it out. Empty it's about 50 lbs so easy to maneuver solo. I run a roll up tonneau, you'd never know I had a tank back there.

I picked up one of these https://www.terapump.net/product-p/TREP01-T.htm and one of these to house it https://www.amazon.ca/Plano-1127-00-Compact-Arrow-Case/dp/B007TOHGWA/ref=sr_1_11?gclid=CjwKCAiAv9ucBhBXEiwA6N8nYAFjtRLeZWvFzVPECF29MSNAKg-XqmHc1Sh5UAVkDk8RCu-IRBuOVxoCMTMQAvD_BwE&hvadid=231033527663&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9001335&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=8319602227102894030&hvtargid=kwd-308446393605&hydadcr=23345_10308608&keywords=arrow+case&qid=1670879406&sr=8-11

The arrow case has an insert broadhead case that holds 4 d-cell batteries. I just keep that in cab and only put batteries in the pump when about to use it. Also, picked up a back up plan, https://www.amazon.ca/Shaker-Siphon-Transfer-Priming-Gasoline/dp/B07WBWTB7T/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2N5E95IVOWLC2&keywords=syphon+hose&qid=1670879518&sprefix=syphon+hose%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A3D4WU28DYXF1O&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyVldBOEhRVVpBQTlBJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjA0Njk2MjNTM0FRNFlFWjhaSiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMjUyNzg4Mk9RQ0VSTlhGT1JFSCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

You can actually syphon with the battery pump also and the nozzle lets you stop it when full. Or any ole small diameter tube will work. The electric pump doesn't need a funnel to fill, it goes far enough in to bypass the flapper.

I tell ya, I really dig that multi-pro tailgate, just walk right up into the box for whatever. Drag deer up in there, get the fuel tank ready for a top up etc.

I had welder put a 1.5" lip all around the top of mine to catch any spills etc. but also chain to lock through filler cap so you need to work for it and bring tools to get at my gas, as well as it's cable locked to box on both sides through the large welded aluminum handles. I have the equivalent of about 9-10 5 gallon gas cans in one. Well baffled, keep it full for hardly any fumes and or rocking at stops. You wouldn't know driving my truck. Half full I can feel it at stops but full within a couple inches of top I feel nothing. I wish I had built this many trucks ago lol.

Why waste your time and money for a couple gas cans extra fuel? Then you sell it or trade it in and gotta do it again? All you'll see in our part of the world are slip tanks in the box, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. So I carry with full tank and full slip tank 306 litres(80 gallons). Behaved on the highway that gives me theoretical range of 2550 kms(1585 miles). Behaved towing 1975 kms(1227 miles). With gas 2.7. I did the math on the Colorado diesel with a 55 gallon slip and it was amazing, you can gravity feed with diesel, use transfer tanks etc. With gas I just made a giant gas can. Still plenty of room to stack deer and gear in a short box. Doesn't matter where I end up for work or play, when they turn off the lights/net...I'm gettin back to my kids if they aren't with me, or getting home if they are with me. 😉

Yeti 105, Yamaha generator, and a deer about to go into that yeti 105 which will fit several deer. 😉

No they do not.  Both the gas and diesel tank p/ns are not the same.  At all.

Titan has tanks coming for 20-23 Duramax 1500s and they explicitly state "for diesel fuel only"

Good to know newdude. People have been wanting to do this mod since the T1s came out with the 24 gal. tank.

If I had enough money and time, I'd totally try to make the larger diesel tank work.

If the stock fuel pump bucket fit the tank and sealed up fine, it's really only a matter of getting the EVAP lines to attach to the fuel tank.

So the GM online parts sites are wrong? They show the same part number. The difference is in the pickup part. The tank itself is the same.

Correct.  They have it listed wrong.  The tanks come bare, just the tank.  No fuel pump, etc.

There are two gas fuel tanks, 85170646 (U.S./Canada built trucks) and 85170647 (Mexico built trucks) for all cabs/bed length.

There are then two diesel fuel tanks, 85117714 (U.S. built trucks) and 85117716 (Mexico built trucks) for all cabs/bed length the Duramax is available in.

All the tanks have the fuel RPO code on them as well.  Gas is "FJW", diesels are "FHX."

Sounds pretty specific to me 🤷‍♂️

    • I agree with Tim.  As tech heavy as engines are these days, no way I’d be an early buyer of the new 6.6.  Of course, I bought my ‘26 Denali w/the 6.2 after dumping my Tundra with it’s defective 3.5 liter imploding engine disaster, so I’m a little gun-shy.  That said, my 6.2 has been rock solid.  I don’t drive it like I do my BMW Z4 M40i, but I don’t baby it either.  I got a V8 for a reason.  But I’m averaging 18 around town and 22 highway.  I have seen 24 highway as well when I wasn’t loaded up heavy.  Considering my Tundra with the twin turbo V6 only got 14.5 in town and 17 on the road, I’ll take the 6.2 all day, every day.  If I were you, I’d grab a ‘26 while you can.  Inventories are probably gonna start dropping and I’ll bet the deals will start looking sweeter as well.
    • I am curious if anyone has figured out a way to add an hard button AUX or 360 Camera switch to the center row of switches. I have a 2021 AT4, and want to split the hill decent button and add a 360 camera button so that you don't have to go into the center display and locate the camera functionality, etc...   My father's 2024 Yukon XL AT4 and it has a hard button, see below. I found this thread on the Yukons, but it seems like there may not be a part number for the 2021 sierras. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/255339-adding-hard-button-for-camera-on-2021/ Anyone else figured this out. Seems like it would need to be a custom switch!   I am getting ready to install the auto stop/start eliminator, so would be nice to knock them out at once.     Upvote1Downvote0Go to comments
    • Looks like the entire state is burning. 😬
    • Through the years it hasn't been my typical method as I tried to drop oil on an engine that was hot from having been worked, however that was not always practical and had to fire up a unit and let it warm up reasonably well and drop the oil when I had the time to do it but am referring to not only vehicles but a variety of farm equipment and highway tractors etc. However on a vehicle where one is crawling under it and the exhaust is nearby to ones body and if wanting to pull the plug without danger of being hit with boiling hot oil or attempting to remove a HOT oil filter, its sure safer and easier to not have everything smoking hot and can remove the filter right away when under the vehicle and let it all drain. Of course its not the end of the world if a bit of oil stays in the engine that might have eventually found its way out, I like to get out as much as possible but any oil changes that take place in shops would rarely be sitting around for very long at all before the plug is thrown back in and filter slapped on and oil poured in and sent out the door quick like. There would be very little time spent ( assuming they even did it ) in starting the engine with oil to fill the filter, then waiting to verify the level on the stick. A good reason to check ones oil level shortly after a shop changed the oil on a vehicle just to make sure its correct and to look under for any oil around the drain plug or filter.
