Tire load range rating

I have a brand new 2018 Silverado 2500 HD that has the factory Goodyear SR-A all season tires (load range E).

I have the opportunity to buy a set of brand new BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2’s at a real good price.  However they are a load range C tire.

I don’t tow or carry any heavy loads often so would these load range C tires be OK to use on my truck ?

Load range C tires (KO2’s) are rated for 2755lbs.

Load tange E tires (KO2’s) are rated for 3195 lbs.

Some folks run E-rated tires for various reasons, myself included.

But you don’t really need E-rated tires on a half-ton. That’s why they aren’t equipped with them from the factory.

The C-rated tires you note have more capacity than your truck is rated to carry.

On the 2500, the tires are the real limiting factor for carrying weight, compared to a one ton, air bags can be added, etc. I you don't plan on hauling anything in the bed or towing heavy, the only concern I might have is sidewall strength. Might wallow in the corners, or not. Can't see a nearly empty truck, that weighs in at around 7,500 lbs, over taxing the nearly 2,800 lb per tire rating. The air holds the tuck up, but the sidewall keeps the air in.

The only thing I haul now is a 3000 lb fishing boat and ocassionally I may have the back loaded up with firewood.    I drive conservatively and don’t corner hard.

So from what you’re saying I should be ok.

Even if you drove hard and cornered fast, those tires would be fine.
