Got a baffling issue going on.   Couple of days ago the check engine light came on with a 2017 1/2 ton Gas Silverado.    Had a dealer trouble shoot it to run the codes.   It is a communications fault and comes up U1510.    They want the truck for a couple of weeks so they can trial and error a connection or wire issue.   I am reading on-line a LIN communications break down is somewhat common,  maybe with the ECM,  the BCM or other module such as the HVAC.   Anyone seen a common issue with these newer 1/2 tons that can prevent a trial and error approach by the dealership.   I don't really want the truck dismantled while they trial and error the connections.

Thanks!

Disconnecting the battery negative cable for 30 seconds would be my first step to see if it comes back.

My truck set a code twice that was a lost communication with the transmission. Don't remember the number.

The first time it went away the next day.

The second time, about a year later I cleared the code with a cheap program I run on a lap top.

Then I disconnected wiring harness connectors and reconnected them for the transmission. The truck was not running and the key was off.

It hasn't returned in 2 years.

I wouldn't panic unless it's having problems.

Easy to re-connect the harness connectors like I did to help with a quirky connection.

IMO with the computers today a slight voltage drop can cause a code.

"U" codes are usually a bitch.

One or more of these systems or any wire/terminal

Thanks.   Yes I did the battery disconnect and after a couple of restarts it comes back.   Same thing with disconnecting the Engine Control unit,  the dealer suggested that was where they thought the issue may be.   But it comes right back as well.   I was in the high water late last week and the transmission connection may be an opportunity the check out.   This truck is a 2017 MY.     Thanks for the response.

U1510 by it's self doesn't tell a tech much. Without additional codes and or symptoms it be almost impossible to diagnose.

Called the dealership back and they seem to recall it was a U1510 K20

Hi, Joel. I hope your Silverado is running smoothly. Otherwise, feel free to send me a private message, if you’re considering visiting your servicing GM dealership in the near future. Thanks!

All corrected now.   As tbarn mentioned it turned out to be this as the issue.   Not covered under drive train warranty, but after the replacement of the air shutter actuator and a re-flash (due to a steering disabling fault) all good now !  Thanks

Mine is a 2017 GMC Sierra and it is giving codes U1510 AND U1501 and when it first popped up the engine was limited to power and rpms, what could it be? Only options I've seen is to clean the throttle body.

I have the Exact same issue with mine. Some of the guys that posted previously seem to have a solution for a 2017 Gmc half ton that may work. He mentioned the K20. check it out above.

Hey there, I have a 2017 GMC sierra 1500 with the 5.3L. Im also getting the U1510 code and want to fix it myself but I dont know where to start. When I unplug the battery it goes away but after one start it comes back. The truck functions fine so its not an issue with anything vital to the trucks operation clearly but i want to get to the bottom of this.

I got the same U1510 code on my 2018 Silverado 1500 and dealership says it’s the same as stated above, the active grill air shutter actuator.

    • No, not yet. Hoping I'll have something a little more definitive in the next day or 2. They seemed to be very confident they can order it. I do have some understanding of the whole allocations and restraints stuff so we'll see.   I think this is what I'm looking for.   3000 ORDER ACCEPTED BY PRODUCTION CONTROL
    • Then you haven't read your book. It also says check every 400 miles.   If you need to add multiple quarts in that distance then reading the stick isn't the issue. Put the two together and it will make sense. Read it all.
    • Following up on my topic, I put an O2 sensor in it which seems to have got rid of all the b2s1 codes (I ended up having multiple codes). Next I’ll try to figure out the P0011 but I might focus on exhaust manifolds first, they’re getting pretty rusty. I’m hoping this thread will help someone in the future.
    • I’m going off the instructions.
    • My expectations are a bit higher.    No faded paint or dry rotted plastic/rubber. I use a dressing and a ceramic sealant. No hazy headlights.  No door dings. Small dent in the front bumper. All rock chips repaired. No brush scratches. No windshield chips. No fender benders. Limit damage due to a proactive plan the included ceramics and PPF and prompt attention to any exterior issue. NO RUST. Stays out of the salt and had the rear wheel wells Line-X coated as well as the bed which has a bed rubber and has been under cover since before I bought it. Washed and detailed regularly. He was right. Everything within new spec yet, tight and aligned well several times. Coolant system is OEM save the modifications I made early on. Not a single leak anywhere on this machine. (Did repair an intake leak on #4 during the HPFP replacement.) The injectors I replaced didn't need to be. They checked out great. One of those, while I'm in there with the manifold off and the fuel rail apart things.  Not a stain or abrasion one to the upholstery. Have kept is covered since new. No, before you ask, I have spent a fraction of the cost of a new truck in my entire maintenance program including disposables, filters/fluids etc.
