I just went through it with powerteq. They cannot unlock 17 and up 8 spds. If you have a pre '17 8 speed transmission it is tunable.

Oh ok well tuneable with HPT not powerteq. I don't know who they are but guess they just can't. been supported on 1-05-17 for the 8speed 17 and up and also support 10 speed so everything is supported. Just have to go with the good tunning software!

afm/dod and also the torque tables you pay for the 6.2 or even the 5.3 and get 1/3 of the power then the truck picks when you get a little more and so on. It is a safety thing and I am sure many will say a warranty issue also but it sucks.

Oh and full power ISN't a factory option Period! It is set to something like 100% requessed throttle over 5900rpms for more than a minute, or something dumb like that. so in short an impossible situation.

And just drive the rental until the TCM gets back to you. Then for any warranty purposes Your tcm hacked. Maybe after the warranty is up.

No there is a way to do it threw software as I stated. The post I showed was just to show that it was available and always was. So no rental and no wait. as I said the 8speed sucks but on the issue of there being no tuning available option there is and always was. Local "good" shops should know this and take care of your tune all in one.

This is why I stress tuning so much. you can bolt on your parts and say you feel the power but I think that is hard to believe without the tune as the software will block requested vs actual torque. I bolted a turbo on even at just 2psi the truck would shut down and enter limp mod. All the tune in the world can't fix that with the trans settings. I have seen well known supercharged big dollar 600hp truck get parted out and sold b/c shops couldn't(didn't know how) to tune the trans. Spoke to the guy and he had a new truck with full tune and was happy again.

Tuning shops are tuning the 17 and up 8 speeds while you wait.  Hopefully hand helds will have the ability soon.   Check out Vector Motorsports.

I actually talked to a local shop where I'm at. They said they had to send it out. They was a few months ago. I will have to make the decision once the 3.73 gears are in the truck.

I'd find another shop.  It can be done in car/truck.

8 speed sucks. There can be many issues with it. However for the most part you are correct. Tunning can resolve all of it. Personally I would also throw in a new stall but with just light bolt ons and a tune your fine. Get rid of afm/dod and change the torque tables increase shift pressures and zero out slip over set rpm. If mpg aren't the very most important thing for you get into fuel tables and fix the fuel ratio however I would go intake filter, exhaust first.
Any other questions on tune just post or go over to HPT and read up.

Highlighted above. What is that?

You can change slip a dozen ways on is per gear one is with agm/dod, load, speed ect...
I like it set so over a set rpm then it is zero. School of thought is low speed and low power it is a little easier on trans. In wot it never up shifts and sees under 2k rpms and you can see also temperatures listed.1ca1b3060ccfd59067a3dad77abc68c2.jpg1698c975251fb64c7a7624364f309dc4.jpg

There is only a handful of shops/companies in the country that are claiming to be able to tune 17+ tcm's in vehicle. Everyone else is sending them out to be unlocked by HPT.

Are the 17+ trucks having the TQ troubles of the earlier 8 speeds?  If so are you going with factory replace for the 1st time there is an issue then upgrade after that, or AFM delete and tune early enough seems to be keeping the 8 speed reliable?

From what I see people are keeping up with the factory recalls as that is free parts and labor but still leaving dealer and reloading there tune. No matter what you dont want that afm and DOD shit anyhow. Or at least 5he people that want the power the truck has need tune, not going to give that up.

Very true even some of the biggest shops had issues or steer away from them. That is why I say the 8speed sucks. I have emailed and called over 20 shops from California to Florida. Came up with 4 shops that can do it have done it and will do it. Others said they dont or would have to look into it but had ability.
No one said that it wasnt a option.
