Spare tire usage

My original alloy wheel got small dent from the inside lip ( it is 20 inch factory wheels ) , I ordered another wheel but it will take like 20 days to arrive ( overseas ) , my question , can I continue to use the spare that long ( will not exceed the tire speed. ) , ? Thanks

Our spares are a regular tire  so it will not hurt it. Just if you have four wheel drive keep the truck in two wheel drive  or you could damage the 4x4 system as the smaller tire reads different on the speed sensor so the truck will think it’s slipping when it really is not.

Yes don’t feel bad I destroyed  two 22 inch rims in Kentucky. I had to buy a second spare  to get back to Canada. I had two spares on for over a month.  clipped a poorly marked.storm drain in the dark.

One more thing , it is now in the front ( even I don’t feel any alignment issue and the steering is going straight as normal ) , should I put better on the back and get the factory one to the front ?

I kept mine on the front. It’s easier on the rear locker if the tires are the same size

Yep, keep miss matched tires on the front, and stay out of 4x4. 

 

Keep in mind that miss matched tire sizes can (in theory) have an adverse effect on the ABS during emergency braking.

Agreed with the guys who say to keep it on the front.

Putting the spare on the front is your best bet. Looking at what tire size GM puts on the trucks the diameter varies by a .5” to 1”.

I did a calculation here:

In 1 mile there is a difference of 6 revs per mile in my 20's and in the spare.  Not enough to ever worry about.  IMO, driving on a curvy road would have a much larger affect on the rear end in terms of rotation than this little of a difference in tire size.  Where I live curvy roads are a way of life.  Good luck getting everything back to normal.
