Tow Limits for 97 chevy 1500 silverado w/ v8

Far too little information given to attempt a decent answer. Which engines, transmission, rear gears, etc are a minimum needed.

I'm trying to determine if my 97 Chevy w/ a v8  will tow more      vs     my 2015 Chevy silverado crew-cab 4x4 v6 w/ a cattle guard front bumper?  And what are the ratings for each vehicle??
I think close to 6500

If the 1997 manual, isn't available, it can be downloaded here:

https://my.gmc.com/content/dam/gmownercenter/gmna/dynamic/manuals/1997/gmc/sierra_1500/1997_gmc_sierra_owners.pdf

page 4-48 has the engine/trans/rear end combos that were available, an towing rating for each one.

There was no 4.7L v8,  but there was a 4.3 v6 as well as 5.0L and 5.7 L v8' gassers and the 6.5L diesel.

97 would not work on mobile. I'll try it at work tomorrow.

2015 is below

so the max the 2015 will tow is 8,000 Lbs? this is the specs on my camper, (

Hitch Weight 800 lbs
Dry/Unloaded Weight 6770 lbs
Gross Vehicle Weight 9500 lbs )

so....  as long as i don't stuff it full of stuff i should be well within my tow limits for the 2015??

According to that rating your OK to tow the trailer. I always try and keep my trailer's 25% below my rated GVWR,but to each his own.

The rating is 7-8k. Meaning it was built on that platform. The main difference making it 8 would prolly be rear lifting block, a trans cooler or some other addition to the truck to justify a tow package.

The 2015 will have trailer ratings in it's manual.

8000 is the GVWR weight class (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)-- which is not the trailer weight permissible.

Trailer tow rating in 2015 manual also depends on which box (standard or short) the truck has.

2015 cc 4x4 v6  - shows 7000 lb with std box, and shows  7100 with short box.

The 2015 manual can also be downloaded from GM if you don't have the one that came with the truck.

I am not getting an a answer on the 97. Weird cause my 93 GMC C2500 has 8000LB towing limit and it comes up.

My 08 Silverado has a 5.3 and 3.42 gears. Also rated at 8000 lbs. I towed my RV (5900 LBS empty) crossed the country and it was not happy on the hills out west. Depending on how far your going it may be worth a test run before making the commitment.

Camper dry/unloaded weight does not include battery, propane or any options the manufacture added to the camper. You are going to have to get it weighed.
