Side steps lightning

Has anyone added lightning under the side steps? I would like to add lights to come on when the steps move out or when. the door opens.

I did this on my old 2015, I just used a cheap ebay waterproof LED 8" strip on each side and tapped the dome light circuit. 

 

Currently working on doing this on my new 2018. Using the Mictuning 60" strips and going to tap the puddle lamp circuit.
