F150 electric

Wow Ford announced electric hybrid f 150 for debut in 2020 and all electric to follow suit perhaps by 2021 model year. Times are changing fast and eco-boost and eco-tech v-8 may be gone in a few more years perhaps ?

I am fine with change and am confident pickups will continue to haul and carry enough to meet the consumer's needs. We may find GM's L4 truck engine to be the future preference for loyal truck owners! I wouldn't be surprised if the 5.3 and 6.2 were only continued short term to ease the transition to the new models. I suspect they will be gone before this generation of Sierra/Silverado has ended.

I'm sure the next (human) generation will continue down this path. The only electric I'd ever have is a hunting cart; much quieter in the woods that my Honda 4WD. And I can also see that perhaps someday I'll be buying an older model, re-built truck. I'll have big V-8's until I leave this world.

I think there will be issue's with range, and charging. Have to find a charging station and wait an hr for a full charge? I'm all for break neck electric torque though!

Exactly.

Battery energy density isn't where it needs to be yet, but may get there at some point.

The biggest issue is the US electric grid/infrastructure.. It's on its knees NOW.. Can't imagine what will happen when millions of cars start loading it up as well...

I think we are still at least a decade, probably more, away from electric vehicles that provide the utility and flexibility we need, maybe even longer.

Also, sooner or later, someone will have to admit that the life cycle environmental impact of electric vehicles exceeds that of gasoline vehicles. That fact has already been documented.

Today, electric vehicles are just a very inefficient way to burn coal.

Do agree the national electrical grid is already close to its max at certain times . Where is all the power going to come from? We all know you don't build a power station overnight let alone several. What is going to be the end result of the cost for all this needed power ? No matter what sure appears its coming and very soon.

I think the inconvenient reality will remain for some time - - - hydrocarbon fuels offer unmatched energy density.

Furthermore, the internal combustion engine technology isn't exactly dormant either.

Let's be honest, if someone had told you, in the early 70s, that we would be driving 400hp 6.2l V8s in a pickup truck and realizing 20+ mpg cruising at 70 mph on the highway in the near future, we would have thought that person had spent a bit too much time in San Francisco during the lsd days.

If, furthermore, this person had said all that, and said that there would be little more than CO2 and water coming out of the tailpipe, you'd have written them off completely.

We are there.

I believe that the future will bring vast improvements in IC engine technology as well as OTHER mobility technologies. It will be little more than amazing to watch.

MY money is on a tremendous advance in hybrid technologies... but still incorporating a (maybe small, pressurized) IC engine somewhere in that package. Just MY feeling.

It'll be fun to watch, to be sure.

Well, it's still better than "rolling coal".

IMO, the modern technology is influenced by

1. the thriving engineer with a vision, who is looking past the today possible and available infrastructure and readiness of the common people,

2.the common people, who follow a stream, set by opinion making advertisements and politics/politicians, who in return...

3. ...follow the money of the lobbyists.

Having said that, I don't mind electric vehicles at all. As long as gas is available to run my boat and maybe an old fashion carbureted V8.

Well, it's still better than "rolling coal".
IMO, the modern technology is influenced by
1. the thriving engineer with a vision, who is looking past the today possible and available infrastructure and readiness of the common people,
2.the common people, who follow a stream, set by opinion making advertisements and politics/politicians, who in return...
3. ...follow the money of the lobbyists.

A factory fresh diesel, today, is actually, very clean compared with as little as 20 years ago.

But, an ambitious tuner can wipe that out to be sure.

Did you know that the first couple to be seen in bed together on prime time TV was Fred and Wilma Flintstone? Prime time is just short of hard porn now. Actually todays TV was considered HARD porn 50 years ago.

Seen the new Buick commercial where they use to say, "that's not a Buick" and point to a Lacrosse away from some fuzzy form of another make? Now they point to an SUV after saying not THAT Buick but this one? Pointing your attention away from cars to SUV's? Ever see Demolition Man? Electric cars with what we drive now in a museum?

Can you see the major four oil companies closing all refining and related operations and OPEC going broke without some blowback? Millions of jobs kicked to the curb without some 'issues'? Turing around the auto industry is the tip of the iceberg.

LOL most of you have no idea. The fuel you burn, the food you eat, comes from fossil fuel. (look up urea). There is no other concentration of energy, of btu's, other than fossil fuels. Unless you'd prefer splitting atoms into radioactive isotopes. But then, your collective disagreements have these glow-in-the-dark residuals just stored in lead-lined cellars rather than deep in the Earth.

Oh heck, I have to say it ... if you think electric cars are the answer, you're Very Stupid. You must wipe your ass with cellophane or your left hand.
